Question about NetGear DGN2000 Wireless Router

1 Answer

When first installed all worked fine but now some 4 weeks later I see the wireless connection keeps dropping and then reconnecting. Also it is incredibly slow. Ran adsl speed test with the modem hardwired into the pc with an ethernet cable and returned better than 10Mbps. Working wirelessly this drops to about 1Mbps. Any ideas?

Reset the router and then make sure you have it private. The main issue may be people sponging your network. Also check the stream activity on the network. If you have a main computer make sure it is not downloading large amounts when you are having issues. If none of these are the cause return the router you have a hardware defect.

Keeps dropping connection every 3 or 4 minutes, 2 other computers work fine. all have windows xp installed. the one that drops the connection is the only one that uses wireless g.

Check to see if there is an updated firmware for the router via netgear's webpage. Follow their instructions for the firmware upgrade.

Should solve the problem. If not, let me know and we'll try something else.

Drops the internet connection and has to be rebooted at least once a day.

Try to reduce the MTU of the router. If you're on DSL, set the MTU size to 1492, for Cable connection size is 1400 or 1463. You can do it on the router's admin page http://192.168.1.1

What a static ip is, is the ip address that the router automatically assigns to other equipment. (computers, xbox, ect.) Find D-links customer support line for help.
