Question about Televison & Video
Alright, so I assume you are aware that the best fix for this is to replace the y and z boards and install a fan due to the excessive heat causing the boards to expand and short out.
If you bought through Costco call 1-866-861-0450 and let them handle the Vizio people. If not, call Vizio and insist on speaking with a supervisor until they admit there is a problem with the P50 and they agree to repair it. They are apparently taught to reply that your warranty has expired, but when this amount of money is on the line you should push until they agree to fix at their cost. Please do not let Vizio tell you the warranty has expired bit, they have to fix it because it is a defective design. Call and do not let up, you will save a small fortune. Be persistent and nice to them and they should help you out.
Unfortunately there is no set part(s) that go bad on these boards. One part can short out multiple parts and each board has the potential to damage the other board. I would first try going through Costco if you managed to buy it there, and then try Vizio. From there, you basically need to test EVERY component on the boards to verify that they are good because one bad part may short out many other parts if not found which is why it is recommended to just replace both boards. If you have a multimeter, that is a good way to start, usually components that are bad look black and burnt, capacitors will have a bulging top, etc.
Let me know how this works out for you.
