Question about Washing Machines

The cold water seems blocked and wont fill up the machine. What do I need to do?

I have an old Whirlpool that won't fill on the cold wash and cold rinse portions of the cycle, but warm or hot water fills just fine. Further, if I start on warm or hot and then switch to cold, the washer seems to fill OK. Any help would be greatly appreciated

If no cold water then check the water inlet valve for possible obstruction at screen in the valve or the fill hose it may have a screen in it
if not the problem the verify that you have voltage to the water valve if you do replace the water inlet valve

Is your water line blocked? if I just do a cold water wash, the water comes in slower then if I have it on warm.

Why wont my washing machine advance to rinse cycle?

Does it drain? If not check the lid switch. If it does make sure the cold water inlet screen isn't blocked. Most washers have only cold rinse, if screen is blocked or there is no cold water it won't fill and then won't advance.

My washing machine is over filling it is draining away but only if you put it on a spin the inlet water is constant and is always filling and wont cut off then it leaks from door seal and tray for washing...

Water inlet is controlled by a level switch and hot/cold water valves,( solenoids). It seems most likely that one of the water valve diaphragms is faulty;turn off hot and then cold taps to determine which one is leaking.A handy person can often strip the valve and replace the diaphragm, or else
a service person may be needed.
At times, the water is measured by weight,(depth) and during spray rinse by the timer, therefore, if you are using a cold rinse, ,most likely the cold valve is faulty.

Washing machine will not run on cold water ...will not fill or operate when cold water is selected. Temp selector switch or fill valve??

Check the water filter to see if it is possibly blocked. Shut-ff off the water valve on the cold side, then disconnect the cold water hose to get to the cone shaped filter. Pull the filter out and see if it is blocked.

Washing Machine Rinse and Spin lights are on

its the problem of drum getting blocked by any clothes getting tucked up.also try to move the drum manually with the machine off.if it makes any noise its the faulty motor.or drum has lost its alignment.it needs to be reseated properly in that case. -------------- The water fill valve - The water fill valve is a mechanical and electrical part, the coils on the valve need electricity to mechanically open the valve to allow the water to flow into the washer....myth....the washer pumps water into itself...no, it does not. The fill valve opens and the house water pressure pushes the water into the washing machine.
No cold water or no hot water - The fill valve has two coils, one for the hot water and one for the cold water. It is possible that one of the coils can fail and you loose that filling ability. If the cold water coil quits, the hot will still work and during warm fill you will get hot water only and during a cold fill you will get no water at all. If the hot coils quits, you will still have cold water fill, cold water only on a warm setting and no water on a hot fill setting. You can test a fill valve live for 120 volts, power to a fill valve coil and no fill = a bad fill valve. You can also test the coils for continuity, no continuity = a bad fill valve. Some Maytag washers have a fuse in the fill valve circuit, if this fuse let go the washer will not fill. Fill valves can also from time to time stick open and not stop filling. If you have to shut off the fill valves to stop the water from filling in the washer, you have a bad fill valve and you will have to replace it.

Washing machine wont stop filling with cold water

Since you removed the screens, the sand probably has entered the valve and damaged the spool. It's apparently sticking open. You need to replace the complete valve and keep the screens in place.

Kenmore 80 series top loader the washer will not fill with cold water only hot water

Yes patrick you can try removing the cold hose from the washer, look inside the valve for a metal screen. If it has sediment blocking it remove screen, clean it and reinstall. If still no water replace inlet valve.
