Question about ATI RADEON 9800 PRO (256 MB) Graphic Card

1 Answer

Radeon AGP 9800 ati 256 mb

The problem that this Video card is that, it's generating black and colored spot on my screen, also when starting my windows, my screen shows 2 column of colored dotted red on the right side, also I did some adjustment from my BIOS setup, and search for the newest driver, i believed Iam using the latest driver unless, i missed something.

I used to have NVIDIA 5500, I deleted all the files and removed it from the control panel all that is related to this NVIDIA 5500 VCard, thinking it might have something to do with my older vcard driver, but to no avail.

Can someone please help me resolved this problem, I would really appreciate it and many thanks.

I got this 9800 Vcard less than 2 months ago from Tiger Direct brand new, unless they sent me a refurbished one, then, it's a different story, but ...I believed it has something to do with driver configuration, or maybe the driver itself, or yet could be my hardware compatibility, my power supply is 450 by the way.

    thanks again.

The memory on your card is beginning to fail. There is no repair for it, and it's time to let it retire.

You should be able to find a new 5700 or similar still in most computer shops. Pricing is the big problem with them costing far more then an equivalent PCI-e model.

If you only got it 2 months ago, then I would be returning it.

It is a memory error. The lines etc you are getting when Windows loads rules out drivers since they are not loaded by that stage. The ATI drivers are almost the last thing to come into play when booting.

If it was amtter of hardware compatability, then it would have done it form the start.

Remember this is a bit of hardware, they can fail before they even get out of the box. Age is not as important as you may think. I still have my first 9800 pro running fine and it's almost 5 years old now, but I have had others collapse at a few months old.

All comes down to the luck of the draw.

Even if you do this, I would not guarantee it will work. Before you destroy it and void the warranty, you could probably return it or sell it on eBay. It's still a decent card for a AGP variety.

Since I installed my graphics card gigabyte 9600 PRO my screen became messy and only has like few colors ... The screen is like yeloow or something and so on... Please help!!!What should I do ?

Hi there,
Try to make sure that you have the latest driver installed for your Graphics card you can to ATI's website and download the driver from there.
Also check the settings of your computer make sure that you are using 32 bit color instead of 16.
One other thing make sure that the cables are tightly seated and the video card is inserted on the AGP port tightly.
Hope this helps!

I have 5 strips of redish lines on my screen. Do I need a new graphics card? My computer is a Dell xps.

This could be but I suspect that you monitor is needing service.
1. To isolate connect a known good LCD to the pc graphics card ( the ATI RADEON)
If the lines are not visible then yes a new video card is needed.
2. check the video cable to see if you have it well connected to the video port.
this sometime will render intermittent screen and vertical color lines.
3. check video cable for bent pins.
I hope this helps. Have great day!

Ati radeon 9800 error message on bootup

the error means that you do not have a power cod connected on the card or the power supplied by the PS is not enough for the card to run.

Remove power from the parts in the PC that you are not using anymore and try to reinstall the card.

worst case is getting another power supply about 600 watts

Swap 9800 Pro for 9700 Pro

You must uninstall the current driver and reinstall the driver for the 9800 Pro first:
Power supply recommended is 300watt for each, so that is not a factor. It would have to be a driver conflict.
