Question about Sony Grand WEGA KDF-42WE655 42" Rear Projection HDTV
Try connecting the TV directly to a different wall outlet and check. If the issue persists, try power resetting the TV. Turn Off the TV and remove the power plug from the wall outlet for 1 minute and reconnect it and check the operation. If the issue persists, then the TV requires service

Most common problem for a Sony 42WE655 with no picture and lights flashing is a failed bulb. This is not a fault, the mercury in the bulb has been used up.
No troubleshooting for other faults are practical until a "known good" bulb is installed. Many dollars are spent on troubleshooting and replacing non-faulty parts when the only problem is the bulb.
You can change the complete lamp assembly or just the "Bare Bulb". Original intent of the manufacturers was to charge from $400 to $700 for complete lamp assemblies when the bulb fails. Same scheme as cheap printers with expensive ink.
Lamp assemblies from the manufacturer usually cost 50% to 100% more than replacement lamp assemblies.
Philips bulbs are the most common "original" bulb in LCD and DLP TVs. Philips replacement bulbs cost considerably less than the manufacturer's Complete Lamp assembly.
