Question about Vacuums

Oreck XL Vacuum

I had to pull the motor to my Oreck XL and when I put it all back together the light bulbs blew. Can anyone help me understand if these bulbs are 120V and if not how do you hook them up to get 12 volts. Have new bulbs from Oreck that appear to be 12V. I can't find a wiring diagram?

If you can find a Kirby G series vacuum lightbulb, it will work in the Oreck too!! Many sellers carry them online.

How do I access a wiring diagram for handle switch assembly on an Oreck XL upright vacuum?

Go to www.hescoinc.com. Click on schematics under information on the left side of the page, then click on Oreck and find your model. Hopefully that has enough detail for you. You can order parts from them too at prices lower than most other distributors.

I have an Oreck Xl upright vacuum. when i plug it in the light on the switch is on but the vacuum wont start. i took it apart to check the wiring and seems fine. is this a switch or motor or? problem. ...

I assume that you have a two speed switch and neither speed works. If you have access to a multi-meter I would check continuity through your cord going to the motor and the switch and also the motor itself. Anything where you do not have continuity going across should end up being your problem. Your wires from the cord will attach on the motor were there are black dots next to the wire tabs. You could try touching the wires together that go to the switch and see if the motor runs if you do not have a meter and if it does then you do have a switch problem. If you can check those things let me know how it comes out and if that does not take care of it I will try to figure out what else might be the problem.

Took bag completely off and now I can't put it back together

Put the outer bag back on the unit. Make sure that you have pushed the outer bag down past a black lip. The piece that holds the inner and outer bag on the vacuum needs to be put on next. The small horseshoe shaped plastic piece goes on with hte open part down. Make sure that the docking station goes behind the lip I told you about. Next put the piece that the inner bag slides into on. This should have the bag back on the vacuum and ensure that it is on properly. If not, then it will pull of pretty easy and blow dirt into the outer bag...not the one that is meant to catch the dirt....I am a manager of an Oreck store.

I had a loose wire in my Oreck XL motor. I took it

Lights are 12 volts.

The motor has taps on it to pull 12 volts rather than 120 volts for the lights, uses the motor as a transformer.

Should be black and white to the motor from the switch, believe the switch breaks the black wire. White wire should be neutral. I can't remember colors for the wires to the lights. Would expect it to be the white wire and then the "tap" wire to be red.

One crazy way to do it, is to hook up wires, leave the light bulbs out, turn on power, and check voltage at the bulb socket with a voltmeter. (This is one of those things they tell you on television to only let a professional do, do not attempt at home.)

How do I replace the brush roll on my oreck xl??

Turn the vacume upside down. Remove the 5 screws on the bottom plate. 3 are near the brush roll, and 2 are near the back. Remove the bottom plate. take the belt off the motor end. pull up on both ends of the brush roll. Put new brush roll on making sure that you put both ends to the new position, not old. ( it is marked on one end, and there are marks on the side that goes up so the can match.)(If putting back the old brush roll you can switch to the old position. After a year or two you can switch the new brush roll to the old position.) Put the bels back on the motor shaft and then stretch and start the belt on the brush roll and rotate the brushroll by hand untill the belt is all the way on.
put the bottom plate back on and tighten the 5 bottom screws.

Can I get a wiring diagram of the handle on an Oreck XL 2.

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. Oreck XL Ultra Bagged Upright Vacuum. The best place to get an owner’s manual is from the Oreck Factory of which I will supply for you listed below or you can download the owner’s manual from the Oreck Website. . I would check with your local Oreck dealer or vacuum dealer in your area to see what is going on. This is most unusual for this to happen. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.
