I used a pair of pliers to squeeze them closer together. (someone will complain about this suggestion- as opposed to a new replacement). .. but it works for a good period of time.

Range won't heat up

it is a glow coil , thermocouples are on units with a free standing pilot that you have to light, if you have a range like this you may need a thermocouple if not a free standing pilot you have a electronic gas iginition system that uses a glow coil, you turn on over setting and oven glows orange then iginites if this is what you have you need new glow coil, easy to repalce

My oven

I have found that the pilot will get fouled with a light colored powder due to inpurities in the gas. I usually clean with a tooth brush and pipe cleaner (when cool - no pilot). Otherwise the thermocouple may need to be changed, or at lease re-adjusted to be nearer to the pilot flame. Cleaning every year is prudent.
