Question about Denon DHT500SD System

1 Answer

System says no disc when I have put on ein

This is an odd problem to a non-techy. I have a music DVD which played fine yesterday yet now when I put it in the system says no disc. I try another DVD and that works but when I go back to the original the system insists there is no dvd in the player.

Any ideas?

Is this a burned disc, or a factory-pressed DVD?

Often times DVD players can have problems recognizing computer-created DVD discs. If it can't find the TOC track, it will say "No Disc," even if one is spinning in there. It just means it cannot recognize and initiate play on the disc.

It is curious that the player recognized and played the disc initially, then stopped. It could be that a scratch or a smudge on the disc is hindering the laser from reading.

1 - Try a different disc.
Either works, or not.
If works, problem original non-playng disc.
If not working, problem is player (or another faulty disc).

2. If player is problem:
Try using a 'head-cleaner' disc (from store).
These usually play whilst cleaning.
If no play - problem is 'read head' in player.
If it plays, then try ( a known good - works in another machine), disc.
3. If 'read head' is faulty, you need a techy to replace, or throw it away, buy a new one (more likely).

How do i get my th-a9r to play dvd-rw

You can't. The Laser will only Play +R & +RW.

Non-playable discs

• DVD-ROM • DVD-RAM • DVD-R • DVD-RW
• CD-R* • CD-ROM • PHOTO CD • CD-RW*

* Audio formatted CD-R and CD-RW can be played.

• Playing back discs list as "Non-playable discs" above may
generate noise and damage speakers.

I have a sumsung dvd home cinema system ht.thx25 when I put a dvd in it says disc unknown but when I put a free dvd in from the newspaper it plays.

Is the disc just a regular disc, not HD or blu ray?
Is the disc a region 1 coded disc?

If it is, the unit should play it fine.

When watching a DVD, the surround sound plays all background music but the actors voices are not heard - can hear music and voices in 2 speaker only - TV programs play in 2, 3, and 5 speaker mode.

If there is nothing at all from the center channel while watching a DVD, first try resetting the system (unplug the power cord from the sub, and the DC power cord from the media center for 30+ seconds) If a reset doesn't help this, run the "adaptIQ" setup disc again. Honestly, this is a very odd problem for that system to have. (especially since we know the center speaker works for other sources) I hope this helps.

Used PS3 will not recognize or play games or dvds

The dvd drive has a bad laser in it more then likely. Thats why it doesn't matter what disc your putting in so either the laser would be replaced or a whole new drive put in.

I would notify the seller on Ebay and get the system swapped out with another one or get your money back. Refurbished systems mean that something was wrong with it and parts were swapped out or either repaired down to component level. Sometimes the technician doesn't check out the system fully and thats why you can run into the problem that you have now.

Ps2 not reading disc.

First you need to define what it IS and IS NOT reading. You'll need to run some tests.

Test 1: use a regular music CD (NON BURNED) (RETAIL) disk and put that into your ps2 and see if it starts playing it.

Test 2: insert a regular DVD (NON BURNED) (RETAIL) disk and try to play that.

If neither will play then it is one of two things. Your laser lens is out of alignment, or your laser lens is damaged.

If one plays but not the other, it is the potentiometer pots on the back of the PS2 lens that need adjusting. You can read more about that on one of my other posts ::.HERE.::

NO DISC message

Open up the unit and clean the lens using a cotton swab and alcohol. If that does not resolve the problem, try a music CD and report the results here. I suspect that the optics have begun to fail. If that is the case, the music CD will play but a DVD will not. The optics assembly is available (part # RAF3023A-1) for about $60.

I have a cd/rw and a dvd drive both internal, plus a external dvd drive new,the external one was ok yesterday but now it tells me to put in disc, when it is allready in, and that applys to the other two...

Hi charles. It sounds like a Windows error and not the drives so no jumpers or firmware must be changed/flashed.

Instead try to go to device manager and unistall all the CD Devices. Then you have two options. Reboot and the system automatically installs the drives again.

Alternatively you can scan for hardware changes in the device manager immediately after you unistalled the devices.

Hope this helps.
