Question about HP Officejet 6500 Wireless All-in-One InkJet Printer
I had the same problem and after staying on the phone for an hour with a lady in another country who didnt know what she was talking about i figured it out. The printhead was blocked and the auto clean couldnt clean it so There is a lever at the side of holder for the ink cartidge. if u pull it up it will release the holder. I removed all the cartidges, took the holder out and washed it with in the kitchen sink. turned my pipe on spray. dried it with my hair dryer on low. Poped it back in and it worked.

If it is brand-new the obvious solution would be to seek a replacement from the supplier, but I would recommend that in this case you consider asking for a refund and look for an alternative printer.
I bought this model last August and have been extremely disappointed with it. HP have admitted to me that there is an issue with the duplexer where the software scales the document to produce a huge blank area at the top of the page. However they appear to be incapable of producing a solution even several months after the fault was originally reported.
Lately I have also experienced problems with replacing cartridges. Even though I used HP original cartridges the printer rejects them - reporting them as 'missing or damaged'. What is additionally frustrating about this is that once the error message appears the printer is totally locked up so it is not possible to try cleaning the heads.

I'm just going to place my comment here in sympathy for the rest of you. Having sworn in 1992 never to purchase another HP product with incredible financial investment in repairs to a new desktop computer and inadequate warranty support, it was 18 years before I purchase another HP product. Guess some of us never learn. This printer is the noisiest, slowest printer I've ever owned and had both the cartridge problems buying direct from HP, substandard dried cartridges (cut open to learn this!) on several occasions and then this cartridge alignment issue. 2 days trying to troubleshoot with all the kind people on-line offering their remedies, but it still needs a new print head. Have a Canon that's 8 years old, done many thousands of prints with beautiful photos and never replaced a single thing. Just goes to show, you guy junk, you get what you pay for.
