Question about Dell Dimension 2300 PC Desktop

1 Answer

My video screen will not come up when you boot the computer. It stays in the standby mode and will not show a display. I changed out the video card first with no results and then the ram, again with no results. I even tried a different power supply. What's next?

Hi,

If you have an extra monitor try connecting it. If it works fine, if not then there might be some issue with your video card itself.

Acer Travelmate 230 laptop starts up shows the Acer screen then gets to the windows loading screen after that the screen goes black and does nothing else. what can i do?

What operating system do you have?

What happened prior to the issue? Did you do an update/ installed a new software in your computer?
Try to boot to safemode:
1. Turn your computer on and tap on F8 before the splash screen appears. 2. You will get a black screen that says Advanced Boot Options. Choose Safe Mode with Networking. 3. If the issue does not reoccur there, the problem might be related to the video card driver. Uninstall the video card driver:
a. Click start, right click on My Computer. Choose properties b. Go to Advanced tab and click on device manager. c. click on the plus sign beside display adapter. d. right click on the video card driver found there and uninstall. It will prompt you is you are sure you want to delete it. Click yes. e. Then restart your computer. Boot to normal mode (just let it boot and do not press anything as you boot the computer)

The issue should not be present in Normal Mode but your screen resolution will be very different (bigger). Download the correct driver for your computer from the links posted below:
video driver 1 or video driver 2

Monitor not coming on although windows logo shows up for a while. Then screen goes blank.

try booting into safe mode on your case, and try chagning the settings of your video card check the Refresh rate of your video card settigns, if you have win7 on your machine right click on the desktop left click on personalize
then left click on Display,
then click on Change Display Settings,
Click on Advance settigns,
click on Monitor TAB, you will see refresh rate, standard refresh rate would normaly be 65Hertz on standard monitor on LCD's it can be 59Hertz below.

After changing the settings in safemode restart you machine check in normal mode if your system will show video properly on the screen.

Screen goes into standby mode after a few seconds. Screen will not stay on. Started after the computer was on and coming out of standby mode. Computer works fine on external monitor.

Depending on the options you purchased the laptop with, it either has an integrated video circuit into the motherboard or a plug-in video card to the motherboard. If the laptop works fine with external monitor, your motherboard or video card is defective. Your LCD display is probably O.K.

He may have changed the display settings on the computer. He may have altered the refresh rate higher than the monitor can handle.
You can try start the computer in safe mode (F8 repeatedly on boot up, till the safe mode option comes up)
This will load basic video drivers, you should be able to check your settings now.
Windows xp / right click on desktop and your settings are there
OR control panel / display

Ialmrnt5 video driver error

When you first boot up the computer press F5 continously until a boot menu shows up. Then choose "start windows in low-res mode". This option will start windows in the lowest resoloution and hopefully it will boot up and you can change the resoloution. If this does not work you can retry the "safe-mode" selection. If that does not work you may have a problem with the on-board video or video card.

Lg flatron blank screen

t certainly seems like the monitor is not getting a signal. Did this happen after you changed something, or just on normal boot up?
It could be the video card that has failed.
Also, check the pins on the connector; sometimes they can get pushed in.
If you can, try swapping out the video card or use the monitor on another computer.
Good luck,

Screen stays black

when you first power on do you see bios info on the screen? if not (since its a laptop) chances are onboard video card maybe bad.
if you do see it do you see windows start showing at all? in either case wether you see it or not try booting up in safe mode (start hitting F8 key right after bios goes away) and if it works. if you are able to see screen in safe mode chances are drivers are corrupt i would say go in device manage and uninstall display adapter and restart computer and let it boot normally and see it make any difference... if it works get new drivers from manufacturer and install.

let me know if it helps.

Monitor won't stay on. Error message comes up that says "no input signal", then monitor goes out.

Problem with the monitor, monitor cable, or video output. For monitor, if you have more than one input, make sure it's set to the correct one. Try a different cable. Try a different monitor. Check your video card settings--if you see the BIOS bootup screen while it's coming up then the Windows splash screen, then monitor blanks out, it's a Windows display setting. Boot into safe mode, then change settings--
  • Turn the computer on or Restart the computer
  • Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Boot Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
  • Ensure that the Safe mode option is selected (the top option)
  • Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.
  • When you are finished with troubleshooting, close all programs and restart the computer as you normally would.

Montior does not come on when computer boots

Hi. If there is no display activity at all (i.e., no boot screen logo, etc.) then it could be a bad video card. If you do get the afore mentioned items, boot into Safe-mode by pressing the F8 key at startup. If Safe-mode shows Windows, then it could be a driver related problem with the operating system. This unit has the Integrated Intel GMA 3000 video card, which means its built into the motherboard and with this computer being a space-saving design, you would have to find a half-height video card as a replacement should the internal video card be bad. I am not sure which replacement card you can get because I do not know if there is a PCI slot of AGP slot open on that motherboard. If I am assuming correctly, I would say that you get a "welcome" screen initially, but when the computer boot into the operating system, you don't see that. Please let me know if this is incorrect.
