First check for 240 volts at the dryer if it has an electric heating element,if you lose 1 leg of the 240 volts that leaves you with only 120 volts and with both your problems this is what it sounds like your problem is,because the motor is on one leg(120volts) the timer is on the other(120volt)leg and the element is on both legs at 240volts,so you lose 1 leg your timer or motor would qwuit and the heating element wont heat either

Electric lift stopped 2/3 way up. There was also a burning smell. Won't work at all. Is there a manual overide?

Hello;

My name is Peter. I am a retired field service appliance technician.

There is no manual override on your dryer. Which is a good thing.

You do not want to run your dryer at this point.

The burning smell is burning lint. Your dryer is plugged up with lint. This is a dangerous situation. You could burn down your home.

Your dryer will not run because the dryer fan will shut down if the air flow is obstructed.

You have a hot air exhaust manifold where the hot air goes into a round bottom inlet up to a expanded hot air distribution headed into the dryer. This is usually plugged up.

This may also have caused the fuse to blow, a operating switch or high temperature limit switch to fail.

Go into the following website and put in your model number. You will get diagrams and component part numbers. Your model number is located on a label either on the face of the dryer when you open the door or on the side of the door.

Power From The House

Check to see whether there's power getting to the dryer. Is it plugged in? If you plug something else into the outlet, does it work? If not, check for a blown fuse or tripped circuit breaker.

Door Switch

If the door switch or the door-switch actuator is defective, the dryer won't work and you need to replace the failed component. The switch is inside the dryer main housing near the door frame. Sometimes you need to raise or open the top or front of the dry to reach the switch. Check for continuity you should have none with door open, and should have a reading when closed. If not replace the door switc

Thermal Fuse / Thermal Cut out

On many dryers, there's a thermal fuse (a heat-sensitive fuse that blows if the dryer overheats) mounted to the exhaust duct inside the back cover panel or behind the front panel. The fuse is about an inch long. It's usually embedded in black resin and mounted in a white plastic housing or is sometimes round and made of metal and plastic.

If the fuse has blown, it has no continuity. When this happens, your dryer either just stops heating, or it doesn't work at all. Be sure to inspect the venting/heating system before replace the fuse this is the most common reason for blowing the fuse. (You can't re-set this type of fuse.)

Wiring

Often the main wiring connection from the house, at the dryer, burns and the connection breaks. In this has happened to your dryer, you need to replace the power cord and the terminal block inside the dryer to which the wire is attached.

Dryer quit getting hot

I would suggest that your thermostats/cut-outs have gone as a result of overheating .. Also replace the door switch as this is a safety device to stop the drum from rotating whilst the door is open

My dryer spins but it is not getting hot or blowing air. I think replacing the heating element and/or thermal fuse will solve the problem but what about the blowing air?

WHEN YOU OPEN THE DOOR THERE IS A SLOT WHERE THE DOOR SWITCH MAKES CONTACT TO LET THE DRYER RUN. Conia CCD4501 cloths dryer not blowing hot air anymore

If you can turn it on and have the door open, hold the door switch in and see if you have a glow from the heating element. If not, your element is broken. That is if it is an electric dryer. If it is a gas dryer you need to check the pilot light or the thermo sensor.

How long should it take to reach a hot temperature?

Try disconnecting the vent at the back of the dryer and run the dryer with the air blowing just into your laundry room for a few minutes. Air flow should be strong and you should feel discharge air heating. It still sounds to me as if the dryer has flex vent and maybe does not line up with the dryer outlet, so that when the dryer is pushed back into place the actual space left for the exhaust air to pass through is very small. If this is the case, there is a telescopic low profile aluminum vent available to solve the problem.
