Question about Linksys Cable Modem
I unhooked computer to paint walls. Now reconnected, computer will hook up to internet but after a while drop out and I have to restart computer. diagnosis says modem is not connected to internet---so have pushed on the reset button on back (although it doesn't seem like it's being pushed) still have to restart computer and up for a while and back down again. Last time after only 10 months (I moved & i moved this stuff gingerly) I had to buy a new modem. What's up with these modems that once you hook them up you can't sem to move them again or out they go and you have to go buy a new one?!?!??!!??
I think you must be just unlucky.
I think the reset button just resets the wireless internet but I am not certain about that.
Usually when a router loses it's memory it needs a call to the internet service provider who will get inside it and reset the addresses and check the connections and so forth. This is usually necessary even if you own your own router rather than having one provided by the ISP.
Diagnostics says the router isn't connected to the internet so maybe that is the truth and the problem - coincidences do happen and maybe there is a fault somewhere on the line and it needs reporting to ISP so they can check it or get it checked.
It could be worth double-checking the connections and leads first. I recently had trouble with a phone that worked only when it felt like it. The trouble was a couple if pins in the master socket had gone green and was failing to make contact with the phone plug some of the time.

SOURCE: Linksys routetr problem
The problem can be caused, because of two reasons, one the router profile on the computer has got corrupted and second the router itself. Have you tried resetting the router to factory defaults.. Caution: all wireless security settings and user name and passwords would go back to factory defaults.
1.Disconnect all cable from the back of the router.
2. Shut down your computer and the DSL box
3.Press the reset button, using a paper clip at the back of the router.Keep it pressed for 5 seconds
4. Disconnect the power cord to the router
5. Switch on the Dsl box, wait for the lights to stablize
6. Reconnect the interenet cable and the power cable to the router and power it on.
7 Let the lights stabalise on the router and power on the computer.
Check if that resolves the problem, if not we might need to update the router.

Not sure if I understand properly but your router should have a WAN port or an "Internet" port
your modem should be connected to it and your PC should be on any of the LAN port
