Software Stupid question, do you have to install the disk software to your computer to make just the fax machine work?

The A940 is not a standalone fax machine, and needs to work with your computer to send and receive faxes. Your computer needs a dialup modem installed and a connection to a phone line, and you need to have fax software installed. The printer actually only works as a scanner to input a document to be faxed, and as a printer to display a received fax. The installation CD supplied with the printer has fax software on it you can install, and other software is available online. This document from Dell (the fax section of the user's guide) may be helpful.

• 1) select the operating system of your computer (Windows Xp/ Vista..),
• 2) Then select the language (English) and click on "Search" button.

Use the software that came with the machine. A fax machine will appear as a printer in your printer folder. To get the scanner to work, you can use most software that you probably already have installed on your machine i.e. MS Works, Word, MS Paint, Corel by using the IMPORT from camera or scanner function on the software and choosing your Brother machine as the source.

Hi u need not install fax software for this machine..its a standalone fax machine..the fax software provided for fax is for computer faxing..
first find which operating system u have on ur computer..if its vista..try downloading drivers and then installing

Try to reinstall again the Software and Driver of your Machine?

1.Get the software disk out.
2. Close down your internet connection.
3.Disable the anti Virus Program.
4 Go to Start./printer faxes- click on the printer icon right cliuck remove printer.

go to left panel - click install printer
Insert the Software disk install printer driver.
Restart the machine on the prompt

Nounless you have got it connected to the computer you don't if you do you should've recieved a disk with the stuff to installon that or it would have done it itself
