A window unit is designed to have the side with the controls in the space which is to be cooled and the other side to be outside. If you simply put it on the coffe table, blowing at you, you may feel cooler for a little while, but the heat of the fan motor and compressor added to the heat from the outside coil, will raise the temperature of the room.

Best bet is to put it in a window or to have a sleeve made for a through the wall installation.

If the old unit was dripping condensate into the house, it was installed incorrectly. The replacement unit may have been installed correctly so the condensate drains outside.

I have Whirlpool window unit ACM082PR2. Water is draining into the house. The unit is level. I don't what to do to get to stop draining in the house. Bruce Hansen

Hello, you want the unit tilted back in the window somewhat, the unit should not be level because this will cause the wateR to settle in the front of the unit and drip. Also, if the unit has a drain plug remove it so the water can drain out of the unit.

Why doesnt it put out cool air

First thing to try is to remove the unit from the window. Carry it out and remove the unit from its case. This will require removing quite a few screws. the unit will slide out of the front of the case. wash all of the fin coils with your garden house. Make sure the filter is clean and reinstall. Most of the time problems are due to poor air flow at the evaporator or condenser coils. If this does not solve the problem there are several other things that could be wrong. Let me know if this works.

Why does the manual say not to put the air duct to the window when in the dry mode (dehumidifier)?

When you put the duct into the window you are sending the heat outside causing the unit to cool the house. When you run in the dry mode you need the heat to come back into the room keeping the room the same temp. This is how normal dehumidifiers work.

Whirlpool window air conditioner 20000 btu's not cooling properly

It is possible the cover needs removed and the condenser coils are in need of a good cleaning. (the one in the back that is outside). This assuming the compressor is running and it has not developed a leak and lost the coolant charge. Eric

Window unit just started spitting a little water and making a noise like when something is too tight a fit, a rubbing noise. just started minutes ago. it's raining but, what could of happened?

Make sure the window unit is evenly placed inside the window frame.Just a slight twisting of the housing will cause the fan blade to scrape the housing. Make sure that the fan blade has no come loose from the fan motor shaft if that does not solve the problem. Also make sure the window unit tilts slightly downward so that any water from the condensate produced inside the home on the condenser coil can drain down the slope to the outsidelike the way explained. I have also seen units that were positioned correctly but the drain trough is blocked and will not allow the water to drain outside the house. Let Me Know, Thanks, Sea Breeze

Where to put water

Has someone told you A/C units need water? This I've never heard of. The water you see dripping from an A/C unit is the condensate dripping off the evaporator -- it's removing water from the air when it cools it.
