Remove the HDD inside the case,If the HDD inside is working, remove data with a usb to IDE/SATA Adapter. If the HDD is damaged, which is likely, It ,most likely, can be read, but I don't think you are going to like the bill for that service.

When it hit the floor it either knocked the reader arms loose or damaged them in someway or possibly damaged the Plates inside the drive. Unfortunately, in most cases it will cost more to repair the drive than it will to replace it. There are some companies out there that can recover the information from the drive platters but they are expensive and normally geared to big business.

Try plugging it into a high speed usb port, formating it with the size of your files in mind, so for instance if you have lots of big files, raise the allocation file size and visa versa, otherwise buy a faster one.

I have dropped the drive and the usb conector has broken off the little curcuit boards in side were can l get a new board

Hello,

To the best of my knowledge Western Digital doesn't offer spare internal parts for these drives but that really doesn't matter. As long as the hard drive inside the enclosure survived the fall, which they usually do if they are powered down during the fall. You can pop into pretty much any PC shop and purchase a new drive enclosure, ask for a 3.5" Sata enclosure.

If you are capable of removing the drive from the My Book you should have no problem installing it in a new enclosure. If you want to do this a bit cheaper you may be able to find someone selling a failed unit on eBay and salvage the parts yourself. I would recommend a new enclosure however as you never know exactly what's wrong with failed units.

Hope this helps FixYa,

Chris

I accidentally kicked my 1tb buffalo external hard disk and it fell the usb connection has been remove and when i connect it again the hard disk start to beep and the computer doesnt recognize and detect...

First try a different usb cable. The cable or the cable connectors may have been damaged as a result of the fall.
If that doesn't work and you are certain that your PC does not recognize the drive, then It appears to me that the fall damaged the delicate mechanical devices inside the drive and you will have to replace it.

Hard drives cannot withstand rough handling. If a hard drive is only dropped about 1 or 2 feet and it lands on a soft surface such as a carpet it MAY survive the fall. But if one falls from a higher elevation, (say 6 feet) onto a hard surfaced floor, it's almost a sure bet that the drive's internal mechanisms are permanently damaged.

To find out for sure, take it to a PC technician and have it tested. It should only cost you a few dollars.

If you believe that this information was helpful to you, please return to the FixYa website and rate my response to your question.

After improper shut down, my Western Digital 1T firewire hard drive is no longer recognized

Ouch. It might have crash, sorry about that. On that big of the drive, if it doesn't shut down right, it can ruin it very easy. When you shut down properly it parks the head, and when it doesn't the head doesn't get park, and it tryies. When that happens it will crash the drive. I would try to do some diagnostics to it and check and I hope I am wrong, but it doesn't sound good at all.

Format from NTFS to FAT 32

You'll want to leave this drive in NTFS format as FAT32 has lots of limitations in cluster size and total drive size.

The issue with your DVD- Media Player has nothing to do with how you formatted an external 1TB HDD.

It's possible that the two occured at the same time for different reasons.
