hello ok why did u change the dfrost thermastat was the freezer freezing up at first when u have excessive ice or water is when you would check the thermstat and in order to see if they are broken you can do a continuity test on each part which would tell you if you do have a defrost problem so the main question first off is is your freezer getting cold?

I have a kenmore refri/freezer with top mount freezer. the freezer compartment keeps freezing up in the back, i have to chizzle the ice out every other i called sears and they said it was probably...

Your defrost system is at fault.
Most likely the defrost terminator thermostat attached to the freezer coil.
Could possibly be a bad defrost timer.
I would have to have the exact model number to be more specific.

Won,t get cold freezer side not freezing it is a ge side by side . ice is present at the back of freezer side

The problem is most likely the defrost heater element(s) and/or the defrost timer. The defrost heater element(s) are located with the evaporator core behind the access panel inside of the freezer, and can be removed, tested with an ohm meter, (any reading other than infinity would most likely mean the heater element is functional) and replaced if necessary. The defrost timer can be located inside of the refrigerator, or outside of the refrigerator behind the front kick panel, or behind the rear access cover on the back of the refrigerator.

Usually if the evaporator core is freezing up and not allowing air to flow through the evaporator core, (necessary for the system to function properly) then the defrost timer is most likely working and the defrost heater element(s) would most likely be at fault.

Always place a towel on the bottom of the freezer and use a blow dryer to defrost the evaporator core and never use any sharp or hard objects to pick away the ice or the evaporator core can be damaged and the refrigerant will be leak from the system.

I have included some images to help assist you including an image of a defrost timer that is located inside of the refrigerator, and a new defrost heater element or defrost timer can be purchased from an appliance parts distributor.

Let me know if you require any further assistance.

Freezer coils freeze up then frig warms

this is more than likely a defrost sensor or timer that is not allowing the fridge to go into a defrost could also have a problem with the thermastat the allows the fridge to run for longer periods of time.

Ref/Freezer will not defrost. Keeps freezing up inside both unit

one of three components have failed, either the defrost timer, defrost thermostat or the defrost heater. Find the timer and turn it into a defrost, you should hear the heat crackling in the freezer section. This is a problem easily fixed by a technician

I have a fridgedaire fridge the freezer is on top. And it is not freezing i changed the defrost switch and the timer and it is still not freezing. What do you think it is?

defrost has nothing to do with freezing.its for thawing the frost off the evap coils. are the coils in the freezer frosty? if the fans are running and the compressor is running and no frost on coils then freon is leaking or compr. valves are shot.

Freezer motor keeps freezing up

Sounds like a defrost timer. Also it can be a defrost thermostat.Try to adcance the defrost timer to a defrost and see if it melts the ice off.If so then i would say you need a defrost timer hope i helped:)

Evaporator coil freezing over

You are probably correct, the auto defrost sub-system is faulty -- and probably the timer. You'll have to take the back panel out of the freezer to see the defrost timer.

Icemaker is not freezing ice, freezer not freezing food,

The ice maker won't work if the freezer is warmer than 17 degrees so that's not an issue till you get the freezer cold again. I would guess that your unit is stuck in the defrost cycle. This could be the defrost timer failing. See if you can find the defrost timer in your unit and advance it by hand if possible.
