Question about Honeywell Programmable Thermostat Heater

Furnace not running along with heat pump

Our old Maple Chase thermostat was replaced with a FocusPRO TH6220D. During regular operation the furnace does not come on and the system is running off only the heat pump. It turns on 1-2 hours before the wake time trying to warm the house off only the heat pump when the temperature outside is 35-40 degrees. We were away this past weekend, and my neighbor called to say the heat pump had been running continuously and there was a thick frost (1-2 inches) over the entire heat pump unit inside and out. Is there a way to make the thermostat use the furnace and the heat pump together. It does not seem to be very efficient the way it is working right now. I have turned it to EM heat so that it will not run only the heat pump, so I am running only the furnace. Also, we do not like the cycles per hour setting, is it okay to change it to a lower frequency? I believe it is set to 9 as per the installation manual. Thank you, Jeanette Heylen Bainbridge Island, WA

Someone did not program your thermostat to operate according to your heat and air requirements.
Have it programmed correctly.

The setup is probably incomplete. Did you configure the thermostat for a 2 stage heat pump? The heat pump should have a thermostat wire connected to R, C, Y1, Y2, and O, that makes 5 wires. I suspect you are only using first stage compression and or first stage blower speed.

There is a control voltage transformer that makes 24 volts AC to operate the relays and motor contactors. The line fuses may be blown too. Check them both.

Same problem here. Gas, hot air furnace with A/C. Fan works with heat, but not A/C. Furnace is old, and I had to move the G wire to C at the furnace, plus install a jumper from Y to G.

It is 22 degrees here in Dallas, Tx and my heater doesn't seem to want to get it any warmer than 67 degrees. My unit is only a couple years old along with my Honeywell TH6220D. Just wondering if it could...

em means emergency heat, which means you have a heat pump.check out door unit,it might be all froze up,or covered in snow, sweep snow off gently. if it's froze up its not defrosting and you need a service call.if your back up heat is not working there might be little window on furnace, look for flashing light inside.if light is steady on its working.

I just purchased a house with brand new furnace wired to a RTH2300 Honeywell thermostat. It only has two wires running to it. I can't seem to get it to work in "manual mode"-where I set it on...

?? Connect Wires 5.

Labels don't match?

If a wire does not match any terminal on the thermostat,

see next page.

Quick Installation Guide

Alternate Wiring

If a labeled wire does not match any terminal

designation, see diagram below.

Do not use C, C1 or X wire. Do not use B wire if you already

have O wire. Wrap bare end of wire with electrical tape.

This thermostat cannot be used if your old thermostat had

any two of the following wires: R, RC, RH, 4 and V.

Place a jumper (piece of wire) between Y and W if you have

a heat pump without auxiliary/back-up heat.

?? Connect Wires (cont'd)

Set jumper JP1, on the back of the thermostat, if you

have connected a wire to the G terminal.

Incorrect jumper setting: An incorrect setting is

noticeable in a gas or oil heating system. When heating

starts, you will initially feel cold air coming out of the vents

as the fan is running before the furnace has enough time

to heat up the air.

?? Set Heating Fan Control 6.

HG Leave the jumper in this factory-set

position if you have a gas or oil furnace.

HE Place the jumper to this position if you

have an electric furnace.

8

Set jumper JP2, on the back of the thermostat, if you

have a heat pump.

Incorrect jumper setting: The heat pump operation

will be reversed, i.e., it will cool in Heat mode and will

heat in Cool mode.

?? Set Heat Pump Reversing Valve 7.

O Leave the jumper in this factory-set

position if you have connected O wire to

the O/B terminal.

B Place the jumper to this position if you

have connected B wire to the O/B terminal.
