Does it freeze once you start to use the burning software or just when the hardware is plugged in.

If its when you use the software, try reinstalling the software.

Otherwise, try reinstalling the DVD burner driver.

Ok, so we need to clarify if the problem lies with the USB function on your computer or with this piece of hardware. The best way to do this is to reproduce the incident. So...

First, do other USB devices work on your computer, e.g. external drives or usb flash drives? Do they work without issues?

Second, what operating system are you using? (Ubuntu, Windows XP, Vista, etc) If you plug the burner into another computer with the same operating system, or with a different one, does it work? Try it on a friend's computer.

You want an external dvd drive? Any type of external dvd drive will work because you will just plug it into the usb port.

If you want an internal dvd drive to replace the one you have inside the computer then just to to ebay and put your computer make and model followed by dvdrw drive in the search. Or you can remove the one screw on the bottom of the laptop that holds the dvd drive and pull the drive out. You can also do a search on ebay for the model number on the dvd drive.

Hi. The USB ports on my lenovo y430 seem not to be working, as the computer does not recognize my external harddisks or external dvd writer. Is there any way I can fix this myself?

If you have tried every USB port and you use another USB device to it.. You may check the device manager ryanpajaro20_7.jpg and check if the USB controllers are disabled.. If not, you may click View and then click Scan Hardware Changes.. If still won't work, that is time that you call lenovo and have you laptop replaced defective USB ports..

My computer freezes when i plug in external hard drives

Does it freeze when plugging in any USB device? Exam the USB port and plug/cable for any damage. I have seen the pins get bent and the tab cracked on a Dell USB port before.

It is the notepad version that has no disk drive, so how can I install a cam?

If your computer does not have a CD drive then -
There are two methods.
1. Purchase or borrow an USB external CD/DVD drive connect it to the notepad's USB port and install the software from this drive.
2. Use a different computer and copy the contents of the CD to an USB memory stick and then plug it into the notepad's USB port and install the software from this USB memory stick.

Flashdrive

Check your USB ports (all of them) to make sure there are no broken ones. Also, check your flash drive on another computer to see if the issue persists. If all the computers you put your memory card into lockup, replace the flash drive.

Acer aspire 3680

Susan: According to the specs at Acer, your computer has a combo drive that writes CDs but only reads DVDs. It's not a DVD burner. You can get a USB external DVD burner and plug it in to make backups.

Safary: If that's true, you should contact Acer service about the drive trouble. If the warranty service done was to fix that problem they did not do it correctly, or they created some other problem.

Computer wont start-up

Hi,
If I get you right, after you plug the xternal drive to transfer some file, the system didn't come up. Right?
Well, let me assume yes. If that is the case, I will advise you to boot the system from an external disk and use it to scan the local hard disk for virus. After that, remove the x-hard disk and try to boot the system. If it doesn't work, then transfer all the files to the xternal hard disk and format the local hard disk for new use. Best of luck.
