Question about Toshiba Computers & Internet

1 Answer

My laptop has been freezing for a while now, I've been getting a black screen with a blue bar across the bottom of the screen where the taskbar should be. Sometimes it boots up and makes me go into safemode, but now it wont boot up at all. It comes up and tells me that there was an error with the start up and asks me if I want to fix it or start windows normally, no matter which one I select it goes to a black screen with the little 'loading' bar at the bottom. It wont go any further. Please help.

If you have Windows Installation disk, use to repair Windows.
First go inside BIOS(Setup) with Del or F2 and change under boot options for CD/DVD to boot up first before HDD.
Put the CD in, boot from it and select repair windows once it comes up

How to lock the task bar when it does not showing on screen

It may be set to auto hide. Try moving your mouse cursor to the edge of the bottom screen. If it doesn't show up, try the other three edges of your screen.

Once located, right click on the task bar and choose "Properties" from the menu. On the window that pops up, simply uncheck the auto hide option. If the bar is already on the bottom edge, click on the "Lock the taskbar option." If not, drag the bar to the edge of the screen you prefer and then lock it.

Xp freezes on start up

1) Laptop is dirty inside.
Processor overheated, and turned off. (BIOS turned it off)
This is a fail safe feature that is built-in. Keeps the Processor from burning up.

Fault codes have been stored, and will not clear completely until inside of laptop is cleaned, and possibly have to replace Thermal Paste on Processor also.
(Maybe on graphics chipset too. Thermal Pad)

Let's start here.

What is the manufacturer name, and model number of the laptop?
The model number can be found on the Bottom, of the laptop.

Post back in a Comment.

Vertical black bars screen

Try connecting an external monitor to the 15 VGA (video) plug on the laptop and see if it displays properly on the monitor. You may have to direct the video from the laptop to the monitor by holding down the blue <FN> (key next to the space bar) and then press down the <F8> key.
If the display on the external monitor is correct, then you either have a problem with the laptop's LED display screen or cable that connects the LED to system board. Here is a link for the service manual:

Asus notebook K501J Model. A blue wall at bottom of screen, about two inches high screen' .I cannot remove same. Also I cannot get the task at bottom of screen,

Try this:
Place your cursor at the top of the wide blue band. See if the cursor arrow changes to a 2-sided arrow. If if does, hold down the left button and move the cursor down until the screen is again normal.
Basically what you have done is to take part of the window and increase the size of the bar. This actually should be the taskbar, but it's way too large.

Windows Vista freezes while loading up& Blue Vertical Bars appear

Hi

Reflashing the bios doesn't make any difference.

Check in the BIOS Screen whether notebook scree has the same issue if it is the same then it is a hardware issue if it is fine in the bios screen then need to run the hdd and memory test

After the test result we can decide next steps

> If hdd and memory test passes - then reload the os.

To login to bios - Reboot the system and keep tap on f10
