Procedures prior sending in laptop for monitors?

Have discussed monitor probs (under warranty) . Instructions are to back up files, etc. 1. What other tasks? defrag; remove cookies; virus checks?? 2. Is there a special order to conduct these events? 3. I have some programs that don't have current discs. Must these be erased in resting computer to original conduction. 4. Problem is not in hard drive it is monitor; why must the disc be wiped to original?

HI There,

This sounds like the most insane thing I've ever heard HP tell anyone to do. Before yor remove a single bit of data, find a friend with an External Monitor, and connect it to your laptop to see if the laptop's desktop displays properly. If it does, then call HP back and tell them to immediately make arrangements for you to ship your laptop in for a FREE LCD replacement.

If it does not display properly, then the problem is the video card on the motherboard and once again you should call them and tell them to immediately send you a shipping carton so they can replace the motherboard for FREE.

If none of this seems to cover your issue, then please repost or add on very sepcific information describibg EXACTLY what you discussed about What monitor. Otherwise you have us all shooting in the dark here.

Regards,
TheSelkie

All your data will be lost after you send it in for repair. Buy an external HDD and back up all your files. Thats all you need to do. NO need to defreg, etc...
You cant back up applications, you will need to reinstall them after you receive the laptop back.

Screen blank

Look at the LCD screen very closely and check if you can see a faint image on the screen. It's possible that the LCD lid close switch stuck in the "closed" position and the back-light stays off even when you open the LCD screen or turn on the laptop. The switch turns off the back-light when you close the LCD display to save the laptop battery power.

If that didn't fix it then there are 3 things that could have gone wrong:

1. Video cable connection from inverter to LCD got loose. To check this, follow instructions from step 3 on how to open the LCD and check if cable is fitted properly.

2. The video inverter is faulty
The screen inverter failure is very similar to the back-light lamp failure. In both cases the screen gets very dark and the image on the screen becomes very faint, barely visible under a bright light. If it's still under warranty, take it for a replacement. You can replace this otherwise - you can find the inverter under the screen, follow the procedure described at point 3 to open up the screen.

3. The LCD monitor is faulty
If it works on an external monitor most likely the LCD is faulty and needs replacement. If it's still under warranty, take it for a replacement. If not, you can do it yourself, it's pretty easy. Remove the rubber covers on the side of the screen, unscrew the screws take the plastic cover off, disconnect the video inverter and put in the new LCD after you connect the video inverter to it.

Blank screen HP DV1000 I can get video on an external monitor though

Your laptop may have video options:
* only internal LCD screen
* only external monitor (leaving your screen "dark")
* both screens.

Try toggling through the above 3 options.

After that, there's no part in the LCD screen that you can repair, by yourself.

So, if the computer is still under warranty, contact HP to exercise the warranty.

Otherwise, take the printer to a qualified technician, for proper trouble-shooting & repair.

Emachines monitor e15tr model 568 wont come on

Try to connect the monitor to the VGA-output port of some other desktop or notebook computer. If it does not work, then it needs repair or replacement. If the monitor still under warranty:
* standard 1-year warranty from Gateway
* extended warranty that you may have purchased from Gateway
* extended warranty that some credit-cards offer for items purchased with that card
* extended warranty that you may have purchased from the retailer

???

If not, it's probably cheaper to replace a 15" or 17" or 19" monitor
that it would be to try to repair it.

HP w2207 LCD monitor, the volume control window stays on

The volume button is stuck or defective. You can try massaging it around or spraying some contact cleaner in there but it's probably not worth the trouble since it's still under warranty and HP will replace it for you. Call 1-800-HP-INVENT and let them know what is going on and they'll take care of it for you.

They'll ship a replacement to you along with a return label to send yours back to them prepaid. You'll probably have it by the end of the week.

The OSD lockout won't help you in the meantime, the volume display won't come up but you'll get an OSD lockout nag instead.

Good luck, if you have any trouble filing a claim, let me know. We're an HP warranty center and can handle it for you as long as you get permission from Fixya first.(assuming you're in the US)

btw, this unit has a 3 year warranty and has been out only about 2.5 years so it's 100% that's it is still covered. Shouldn't be any issues regarding proof of purchase, etc.

Lines on the Screen, shut down and will not turn back on

Hi, the issue may with the LCD panel. I work in DELL and have been getting lot of issues like this. It's called vertical line defects.. You can connect and external monitor and press Fn and F8 to toggle the display over to the Monitor. If the display is fine, replace the LCD screen. If the system is under wrranty, call Dell tech support and get a replacement or else call 800-288-4410 (out of warranty repair) department to send your laptop for repair. If the display is the same on the monitor, then the video card/Motherboard has to be replaced.

If this information is succesfull, then please rate!!

My monitor turns itself off

If it's only a few months old then send it back under warranty.
The fault you have is the inverter circuit.

Hope that helps. =)
