I have a toshiba laptop equium a100 laptop want to restore back to factory settings how do i do this

The best option is get a restore disc from Toshiba, I've done this a few times and it is a very easy process. Once you have the disc just boot the laptop with disc inserted and away you go!!.

Restore Toshiba to Out of the Box Condition
If your model Toshiba laptop has a Restore partition on the hard drive then follow these steps to restore your Toshiba to the Out of the Box condition.
1. Press and hold the 0 (zero) key and at the same time, tap the power button once to switch on

is the DVD writer the original unit in the notebook ? if not usre, refer to the manual -- if you dont have manual, go here (it will cost a little )

before you format, try replacing the DVD writer another unit similar

i would restore the notebook to factory settings -- this is the best option in getting the computer back to the way it worked originally going to the factory settings management portion in the system and or use your recovery CDs to format and re isntall everything

Restoring factory settings


You can restore your laptop using a regular windows cd, formatting the disk and reinstalling the OS again. After that all the devices which the drivers are not included on the windows CD like for example; network, sound, video, you can download them from the manufacturer website and complete in this way the process to restore your laptop to zero.

My loptop doesnt start-toshiba equium a100-306


Try reinstall the OS. or press F5 or F8 when boots AND LOGIN TO SAFEMODE AND DO SYSTEM RESTORE. if are not able to go to safemode, then press del when boots and getinto the bios and check the bootable device is harddisk
