Question about Jandy AquaLink RS OneTouch RS8 Pool or Spa Only (Pump Heater + 8 Aux) RSP8 ()

3 Answers

We had an intense thunder storm and lightening the other night. My indoor Aqualink RS8 has a blank screen and is unresponsive. It apparently is not getting any power. The Spalink controller is blinking with the top row of buttons blinking on/off and non-responsive to pressing any of the buttons. The main power panel appears to be working all right and all the button selections work in the Service mode. When in Auto mode, the system still comes on and off as with the original programing times, even without the Aqualink RS 8 being active. I've shut the system down, restarted without the battery in. Check the battery and voltage reading on the 4 pin connectors (Red & Green) all are reading to specs per the Troubleshooting Guide from Jandy. I also have a AquaRite Clorinator and have checked the wiring to the main power panel. The 4 pin connector also appears to be okay, along with the correct voltage reading. Does anyone have an idea why I might have a "dead" Aqualink RS8 indoor panel and flashing Spalink panel? What tests or steps might I do next to identify the problem and if I can fix it myself??? I would appreciate any help

First of all, we can assume the lightning damaged at least the Aqualink RS8 panel. The flashing Spalink panel is possibly ok, since it's blinking, and that could be because it's not detecting the Aqualink. It's hard to troubleshoot a system like this without good substitution parts, since that's what a repairman would do to pinpoint the bad unit, and then they would simply replace it. I would replace the Aqualink first, then go from there- that's the most logical way to troubleshoot this system. Good luck, and hope this helps.

tbreeze47 - Thanks for your reply. Are there any tests that I can do to check the integrity of the All Touch Aqualink board? Obviously, I'd like to save some money, if possible, by fixing what can be fixed without just replacing parts. Thanks in advance for your help.

The circuit internally have gone short. There are many other facing this same problem. Some have got this indoor panel dead due to moisture collected on the indoor panels circuit board. The panel is not very strong to handle the humidity effect. It gets short. It has to be replaced. To get any other part and also the indoor panel board please click on the link below http://poolparts2u.com/products.asp?catid=0&scatid=27 ------ Thanks.
