Question about Krups XP4030 Espresso Machine

3 Answers

After moving from MI to TX my Krups XP-4030 will not make espresso or steam milk. The pump runs, but nothing comes out of the steam attachment. When you try to make espresso the pump runs and occasionally some steam spits out of the nozzle but that's it. I normally use it 4-5 times a week and descale it about every other month.

I tried to descale it, and all I got was occasional spurts of steam through the nozzle.

I removed the screen as described in picture 21 (yes, that's thr correct one) and cleaned it. Now, do you mean there is something else I should clean farther up in the machine? _Nothing_ except an occasional burst of steam runts through the machine.

I have no qualms about op0ening the machine up. I have lost the sales slip, but I'm pretty sure it's out of warranty. However, so far I haven't found the screws that when loosened allow access to the inside. I have removed the two screws on tha back of the machine, but the back appears to be glued on. I have removed the four screws that hold on a plate on the bottom that protects the electrical circuit, and then have removed the two screws that are accessible when the plate is removed and the two that are accessible with the plate on. But the bottom refuses to budge. Any hints?

In any case I tried descaling again and this time I got solution to run through the machine. However, I'd appreciate any pointers you can give me on how to get into the machine.

OK this is the problem which you see in more machines when not been used for a while.
you will have to prime the machine. As far as I know you can get warm water from this machine too. first decrust the brewing head as that can be one of the problems. if you still have the maintenance booklet it is picture 21 ( i think)
If this one is equiped with the warm water function press the hot water knob and let it run through. If not try to make a cup of espresso with fresh coffee. This should work

Sometimes the water does not reach the brewer/boiler unit.

Please check the valve first in the bottom of the tank. The rubber sometimes gets stuck. or Scale might have been build up at the entrance point. I do not know how technical you are but there are a few things you can do.

If you are not so technical or if you rather not open the machine.:

leave the descaling solution in the machine for about 2-3 days. start with warm solution..

The fact that you get some spurts of steam once in a while suggest that the boiler is not defective.

Open the machine and follow the water line to the entrance point in the boiler. take off hose and see if there is limescale buildup in the boiler.

Hose can be kinked too. Please make sure that before you open it you:

1 don't have any warranty left on the machine ( otherwise opening will void this)

2 all power is off the machine and it is not plugged in.

You can contact me here at this site at most any day. I will check mornings and evenings.

    Good luck.

If any more problems contact me through this site. If this solution fixed it please rate me.

The frother on my krups 'il primo' has lost power. The steam barely comes out. How can I fix that?

I've also had this problem with the Krups 'Il Primo' - reduced steam for frothing of milk but plenty of espresso.
Diagnosis: over many uses, a residue of dried milk plugs the interior of the steamer tip.
Fix: Using a small adjustable wrench, remove the tip. Clean it inside and out with a tooth pick. Reattach the tip - gentle with the wrench.

My milk steamer is no longer steaming. Some steam comes out but not enough to steam the milk. The expresso part is working fine as I recently used a Krups descaling kit on it.

From your message that it is clear that the steam is coming but it is not sufficient to heat the milk, so kindly call the customer care to sort the problem as you can't do it

Thank you.

Not frothing milk

that means that the steamer is not generating enough pressure steam.

This happens either because there is not enough heat, or if you release the steam when pressure is not enough.

Very common problem with the american maid makers.

bear also in mind that Krups are not the best at frothing milk, and this is also a basic model.

If you want the best capuccino Coffee machine, buy the italian ones, Gaggia, Delonghi, Ariete etc. that are all great at this, or get a bigger Krups as a replacement like the Krups XP405040 that is also good at capuccino

XP7240 has stopped ectracting milk from canister, just blows steam

Do not push steam nozzle to much on the dispenser. Just pull it back 1mm or something. If pushed to the end there is no ejection and milk is not extraced fro the canister.

Frother doesn't froth

Does not seem normal! You should get plenty of steam for the frothing. Since the unit is new you should take it back and get a replacement. The unit needs to increase the temperature for steam, route the steam away from the espresso group to the steam unit and the pump needs to activate to create the high pressure. Any failure in this areas will create your condition. It also possible that your steamer is blocked but this is a new machine so this is unlikely but you should make sure that it is not blocked.

Water not coming through espresso side although steam wand works fine

you both can have same problem, solution is:

  1. low pressure of pump (or too fone grinded coffee)
  2. security valve of boiler openes to early and dont let the pump to rise pressure enough for good brewing( if it is this you can see water returning back to container if you have 2nd pipe in your machines reservoir)
