I have a Maytag Neptune TL (FAV6800AW) that has an intermitting problem of not spinning and displaying the UC & DC codes. The strange part is that if I put in a large amount of clothes and set the color/jeans or bulky cycle then it works fine. On one ocassion I change the spin cycle to low and it finished the load with no problems. From other post I was thinking I had a bad clutch but now I honestly don't know. Any suggestions?

"" intermitting problem of not spinning and displaying the UC & DC codes. ""

You could drop out the Clutch Pulley and see if you can clean up the One-Way bearing in the Clutch Pulley hub. You may find a lot of rust do to Tub Seal/****** O-ring failure. Go to the thread I pointed you to and take a look at the Outer Tub rebuild.........many have saved the machine and if you DIY you can gain hands on and may keep your FAV6800A going for a long time. I just relubed my Series 17 Clutch Pulley that started up with DC/UC errors, Been three years since I last relubed...........Good Luck this will be last comment here try the other forum if you don't get support here.

Hi sissyfullers
I’m an owner like you not a repair tech. Yes you have a Clutch malfunction if the wash tub is banging around in Spin Cycle of the Wash Cycle or a Spin Only cycle.

One-way Roller Clutches bearing in the Clutch Pulley and possibly the same for the One-way Roller Clutches bearing ring if your machine if it is a Series 10 or 11. Looks like Series 12 and above have the redesigned Outer tub incorporating the integral Lower Tub bearing with a One-way Roller Clutches bearing.

The big question is do you want to DIY the fix and maybe extend the service life of your machine. You probably have a leaky tub seal that brought on this issue. If you have no water driping on to the Clutch Pulley we could put off that fix for now.

If you call in a Repair Company I feel you will find the repair tech may not have a clue….but I could be wrong. If they have a clue and replace the Clutch Pulley you may be looking at $300 - $400 for the repair. DIY it and see if you can save your $1K machine many owners have.

If you have no water dripping on the clutch pulley then I would remove the Clutch Pulley and see if you can clean up the Roller Clutches bearing and if used the Roller Clutches bearing ring as I describe in this post Clutch Fix.

What is your machine Series number that is the first two digits of your machine Serial Number located here;
I have a Maytag Neptune TL (FAV6800AW)that has an - 891dfbe.jpg
Take a look at the Clutch Fix post and see if you or a family member, friend or neighbor can do the Clutch Pulley removal and inspection see what we are up against. If you decide to DIY I will help you thru the process steps it’s not so difficult once you have a feel for the work.

""The strange part is that if I put in a large amount of clothes and set the color/jeans or bulky cycle then it works fine.""

Not strange at all.... The One-way Roller Clutches are not locking up rock solid in Spin Cycle, CCW rotation of the Wash Basket. They slip causing some agitator shaft rotation driving the tranny turning the tumblers as the wash basket begins to spin up. A real bad situation....

The clothes are dragged by the tumblers as the wash basket begins to spin up and the wash basket goes off ballance. If the TDS sensor was not working as designed the machine would shake itself apart.......

Thus I fell your TDS is working as designed and is not the point of failure.

When you place a heavy wash load in the wash basket you can sometimes cause increased resistance on the Tumblers allowing the machine to make it thru the spin cycle.

You can make this machine last a long time if you can DIY the repairs. It really is a very easy machine to work on once you have some hands on and I can add my hands on experience to reduce the PITA work efforts.

All my high cost parts come from e-bay.....pennies on the dollar and all have been good.

I Don't want to mislead you on the parts. If you need to replace the Clutch Pulley I buy that new as with items like Tub Seal, Tranny O-Ring, Outer Tub bearings etc.

I would not spend more that this for the Clutch Pulley here is the p/n 25001169 currently $63.98 the best price out there. Sorry for all the comments……..Rich

I have the 6800aww topload also, I think the bearings are failing. Sounds like a freight train in laundry room now during spinning, gets to 12 min mark, then will start up spin for 4-5 seconds, then shut down and repeat until I turn it off, then it leaves water in the tub. I'm willing to do the repairs myself, but am unsure how many pairs of bearings I need for the repair. On amazon there are two different sizes do I need both, does the seal kit have all the seals necessary to replace the bearings and ******/clutch? Is there a possibility that the main tub bearing is also bad, the noise is REALLY loud, and it happens every time the tub is moving, even during wash cycle. Your advice is appreciated, thanks.

My fav6800 make a squealing show when in wash mode, open front panel found a black tag like substance sprayed around the bottom of machine looks like it was flung out during a spinning or agitation cycle. Would this be the transmission and/or the clutch.

We just moved and the house came with a Maytag Neptune TL which won't spin if there are clothes in the cylinder. It will spin empty. Please help! Thanks.

Washer bangs around in spin cycle and throws a DC or UC unballance code with cloths in the wash basket is that correct?

If so it's a Clutch issue.

What is your machine model number? Is it a FAV6800A or FAV9800A TL?

If it’s a FAV6800A or FAV9800A TL do you error out in the Spin cycle of the wash cycle with an unbalance error code such as dC or uC? Is the wsh tub banging around during Spin Cycle of the Wash Cycle?

If so see this post Clutch Fix. I have a step by step maintenance/repair process for Clutch Pulley assembly issues related to the above error codes.

Wont spin with clothes

Common problem with this model I own it. Sounds like the roller clutch bearings in your machine are seized/rusted up. Do you want to try to DIY the repair? Read thru this post for the details of what is involved. Post back with any questions. Rich
