Question about Samsung Quiet Storm 9048R Bagged Canister Vacuum

2 Answers

Samsung Quiet Storm Canister Vacuum VAC-9049 The motor will not run. Power is on to the motorized rug tool. How can I remove the upper housing to get access to the motor? I have removed the six visible screws, but the housing is restrained at the rear. I suspect there are additional screws under the power switch and cord retractor assembly, but I cannot remove that either. HELP!

Removing all visible screws does not free up the housing cover. One message indicated that there were screws holding the main cover assembly that were hidden under the cord rewind switch plate. He could not remove that assembly which houses the power switch and cord rewind paddles (?). There is one screw holding this subassembly to the main housing cover, but it is restrained by some hidden latch/post/tab. He drilled holes through the paddle to reach the screws.

The entire canister of the vacuum assembly houses the motor, vacuum cleaner bag, filter, power switch, and even a retractable cord assembly in some models. The motor is housed in the front, followed by the filter, and then the bag behind it. The switch is mounted on top just above the motor and below the cover. Each canister vacuum model is different and accessing the motor may or may not require tools to get the job done.

Before getting down to the specifics of motors, first unplug your vacuum cleaner to avoid injury such as electric shock. Next, detach the hoses. The filter and bag are the next things to be removed and they are easily accessed by pressing in some plastic tabs or untwisting a simple lock on the back cover. What is left unexposed is the motor and it typically has a screwed-in cover encasing it for protection.

Using a screwdriver, carefully remove the screws holding the canister motor cover on. Usually, the power switch assembly is exposed first. This assembly is sometimes mounted onto the motor cover plate itself with screws. Remove these screws and set aside the switch assembly to expose the motor cover plate. Again, screws are likely holding this cover plate in place, so they must be removed as well. Now the canister vacuum motor is exposed.

Once the motor can be seen, inspect it for broken wires, loose connections or even worn insulation. Sometimes, dirt and dust accumulates inside the motor causing problems. Using a can of compressed air; blow out the dust and use a small soft brush to clean the area.
Check out.Thanks.

several things to look at. first, did you change the bag?. next, check the belt on the head unit. next, check the wand for a clog. some vacuums have several filters near the motor. check those too. good luck to you.

Numatic gve370 canister wet/dry motor gone noisy

Try blowing out the motor housing with commpressed air through the cooling vents as it is running, if that dont quiet it down it may be the bearings are dry and need to be oiled, use 20w 3 in 1 oil in the blue container.

I have a torn hose on my Samsung Quiet Storm should I try to repair or toss it. Mfg no longer makes replacement hose

The early hose on these was prone to tearing. If you are careful you can shorten it once. Beyond that it will become too short to use on the vac properly. This hose was copied from the original Black and Decker hose and power head kit and was likely upgraded by a flex vinyl molded hose which should be more resistant to tearing.
Some vac shops carry hose "refills" and a Samsung dealer may have one in stock even if the hose was discontinued. The vac is good quality in its general design and worth fixing although the original diameter of this hose may be tough to match

How to change upper filters?

Open the vac as though to change the cone and remove the plastic inner cone with the slotted screw at the bottom.. Underneath you will find a 5" disk , likely coated with fine dust.
That is the one which needs to be changed. Around that disc will be three more screws holding the upper housing onto the vac. These ones are accessible from inside, if changing the motor.
Below the handle of the vac there is a serial number ring and three screws in an offset triangle. If you remove these and the rubber cover for the toe switch, the vac housing will come off. This will reveal the `foam or cotton ``muffler``. You can replace it or wash and dry it if foam. It acts as a muffler more than a a filter....

you will have to replace the whole motor as these motors where never made to be serviceable. if you take the motor to a local vacuum shop than can order you a new one. though i would recomend replacing the whole tank unit with a Nutone or Hayden they are far better systems.

Emptying the water from the Shop Vac 925-13 Canister Wet/Dry Vacuum

Stand in front of the vaccuum with the lable facing you, the 2 release levers are on the left and right sides, attached to the motor housing, which sits atop the tank/canister. Pull out and up on the levers, twist counter-clockwise, lift straight up and the motor housing will follow, leaving the tank/canister on the floor.
