My AVR-E400 sub woffer not working through the Denton system

AVR-E400 has an RCA subwoofer output. This is a line level signal that must be connected to an ACTIVE subwoffer (has its own power amplifier) Also the source must contain subwoffer signal (5.1, 7.1, 9.1 surround sound etc) You will not get subwoffer signal from a stereo source such as audio CD, non-dolby type TV etc. Cheers, Don.

I have a JAMO SW410E subwoofer and would like to connect it to my Panasonic SA-PM19 stereo system, Im not sure if its possible but I would like to know if i can and how to do so. Thank you.

Sorry to said but Jamo SW410E is an active subwoofer. This means that is has his own amplifier for the speaker (that why you can see at the back panel of the sub the RCA connectors for Left and Right (line in level):
technical114_76.jpg
In the meantime your Panasonic SA-PM19 stereo system has none connector for audio out (except the one for the heaphones). So it's not possible to connect these 2 audio devices together.

How to connect subwoofer

This manual discusses it somewhat.

http://service.us.panasonic.com/OPERMANPDF/SAAX730.PDF

Basically, feed the self-powered (active) subwoofer from the Subwoofer Out. There does not seem to be a way to adjust the subwoofer output to match the rest of the speakers because the sub out is muted during the adjustment procedure.

Another way would be to refer to page 15. The note at the bottom right suggests your subwoofer might accept full range speaker level inputs. Refer to the manual for your sub. I believe they mis-printed it and meant "active" subwoofer, as simply wiring a passive (unpowered) sub across the front speaker outputs might cause some amplifier overload issues and you would have no way of balancing it anyway.

Can i replaced my inactive subwoofer into active?

Only if your amp has an output suitable for driving the active sub bass speaker.

Usually you will looking for a pir of rca/phonos marked mono sub pre out out or something that indicates a line level signal output, check the manual for your amp.

Do not connect an active speaker to a high level amp output as this will damage the equipment.

Hope this helps

Receiver cannot recognize subwoofer

As I implied earlier, take a clue from the physical style of connectors for both parts of the subwoofer function in the old and new receivers:

RCA connections are for Line Level signal between components only.

The input (bare wire) at the speaker is for AMPLIFIED signal.

You can't just modify one to fit the other and expect magic to happen. Be glad you didn't do it the other way around and modify an amplified (speaker level) outout into a Line Level input. You likely would have smoked that component.

Your subwoofer is a passive speaker, that is, like any other speaker it needs an amplifier. Many subs are self-powered (amp built-in) and they would mate well with the RCA sub output of the receiver.

Get yourself an Active (self-amplified) Subwoofer and run UN-MODIFIED RCA cables to it, according to its instructions, from the Sub Out of the receiver. Or get an amplifier between your receiver and the sub you have.

Make sure center speaker is connected.Look in owners manual to reset, unit might be in an incorrect surround mode.If listening to a stereo source, take it out of surround.

Panasonic active subwoofer

No way to connect it to your gaming system, unless you are good at rewiring things and even then it may not work right. It would be a tough job, but if you give me the model number I could send you the pinout of the din plug jack. You would then need a male din cable to connect into it and try to figure out which color wire goes to which pin. It can be done, but not to easy. You can't connect it to an amp, it has an amp in it. you would need to use it as your amp. Or just remove the amp section and go right into the speaker wires that plug into the amp board of the panasonic. If you want that information put your email address in the next post with the model of the sub-woofer.I will email what I have on it.

If I were you, I would sell it on ebay before trashing it. There may be somebody who needs one just like it. It can be used with a couple of different Panasonic models probably.

Subwoofer: Active or non active?

Hello Smegboy,

Yes, you are right. This receiver is rated at 100WRMS output in all 5 channels (2-front, 1-center and 2-surround) while in Dolby Pro Logic operation. The subwoofer output is line level only (not amplified), which means you need a powered subwoofer to be connected to this output. A non-powered subwoofer could be used but, you need an additional amplifier connected to the subwwofer output from the receiver to drive it.
Let me know if this helps.
