Ok. I asked coz I wanted to know whether its an image sensor problem(in case of which the view finder will be white in shooting mode). Since it takes pics without any problem, the white screen means that the LCD panel of your cam is dead. Only a replacement LCD screen can fix your problem.

I bought a Nikon D70 on ebay for a good price. It has a 28-80 lens. I can read the menu on the monitor, but it is black when I want to take a photograph. I can use the viewfinder, and take a picture, but I...

No, you shouldn't. The D70 works as SLRs have worked for half a century, allowing you to compose your photos through the viewfinder. The ability to use a dSLR as a point-n-shoot camera, wobbling at the end of your arms, is a relatively recent development. Nikon introduced it into their lineup with the D3 and D300, released years after the D70.

Hi My Nikon D70 only now produces black photos. On speaking to Nikon suppor they state that this requires a replacement CCD however is this a known D70 fault and thus should be fixed for free? or is...

This is a 2004 camera model. Even if it was a known problem, Nikon would have fixed them out of warranty for free for only a limited period of time. You've gone way past that time. If you still want it fixed, get an estimate from Nikon and search the internet for other service centers that repair Nikons and get their estimates too. Then, make your decision.

Monitor is blank on my D70.  I get no picture review nor menus.

Does your camera still operate? If so it's just a bad light diode within the LCD screen.

I have a Nikon d70, and I can not get it to display only one image on the LCD screen. I have held down the button on the top right side as directed, but to no avail. Help Jb

Push your playback button once the camera is on.
Then push you your thumbnail button. (this is the second button from your playback)
watch your monitor and keep hitting the thumbnail button until you get to the single picture view.

Nikon D70 Help

I don't think there is really any such thing as a 100% "natural picture". What your eyes see and what film or a sensor "see" are not the same. All photos are manipulated to some degree whether it be from the type of film or the digital "modes" you use. If you would have shot with a film such as Velvia, the greens may have been more "stellar" or maybe too green. There are a number of settings you can use to get the results more to your liking with a D70, or shoot NEF and post process to your liking. Your exposure will make a difference so you may want to bracket.

D70 USB setting issue

Users of Windows 98SE, Windows ME, Windows 2000 and Mac OS 9.x may experience problems trying to download images from the Nikon D70 using Nikon View. Initial shipments of the D70 have the USB option in the "Set up" menu set to PTP - Picture Transfer Protocol. PTP is only compatible for downloading images with Windows XP and Mac OS X. To solve this issue please set the USB menu option to Mass Storage and then connect the camera to the computer. The D70's card will then mount like a removable disk and Nikon View will be able to transfer images
