Question about Toshiba Satellite A215-S4747 Notebook
Note: these instructions are for Windows XP, however the procedure is basically the same for both Vista and 7.
First start with limiting the number of programs booting up with your computer. To do this click on the "Start" button, then choose "Run..." Type in msconfig then press enter. A new window will open called the "System Configuration Utility". Click on the "Startup" tab. All of the programs that have a check in their box are set to boot with your computer. If you recognize any (like AIM or any other messengers) you should uncheck these boxes if you are okay not having them boot when your computer does. This will make the boot of your computer much faster. When you are done click "Okay" and then choose "Exit without restart". The next time you reboot your computer these settings will be applied.
Second you need to uninstall all of the programs you do not use. Click on the "Start" button and then open the control panel. Open the "Add or Remove Programs" tool. Locate each of the programs you do not use, and choose uninstall. Some things you can uninstall are toolbars and games. If you no longer use them, and you still have the CD for the game then remove the program before you keep it. Keep in mind that you can remove programs while still keeping your personal files for most games, this is a good move if you want to reinstall the game eventually.
Third you need to download and install updates for your computer. Click on the "Start" button and find the "Windows Update" option under programs. Choose express install and download and install all of the updates recommended for your computer. You will likely have to restart your computer at the end of this process. When your computer has restarted, repeat this update process. Repeat until there are no longer any updates recommended for your computer (this may take three or even four update cycles).
Fourth we will move on to making your hard drive run more efficiently. Open up "My Computer" and then right-click on "Local Disk C:" and choose "Properties". Choose the "Tools" tab. You are going to run both the Defragmenter as well as Check disk utilities from this same spot. Click on the "Check Now..." button to initiate the check disk. Check both of the boxes here and run the check disk with these options, you will need to restart in order to finish this operation. When all this is done go back into the Local Disk tools and click on the button "Defragment Now..." First choose the analyze button to determine if you need to defragment your drive or not, if it is recommended run a defragment. This whole process of optimizing your hard drive may take quite a while (just let each process run overnight).
Finally if your computer is still running slowly you need to add additional RAM to your computer. You need to find out what kind of RAM your computer requires (DDR, DDR2, DDR3...) and you can easily install it yourself. You should always buy RAM online as it is far less expensive online than it is in stores like Best Buy.
In order to keep the speed of your computer up, you need to regularly run full-computer antivirus scans with frequently updated software. Viruses, malware, and general junkware have a habit of slowing down your computer.
Your computer will now run much faster and will increase its life span significantly.

The best way to speed up your computer is by upgrading the RAM.
And install the windows again to fix all registry issues.
