Old Green iMac

I got this computer basically for free. I cannot figure out how to get hooked up online. I have DSL Broadband through Netzero on my other computer(which since has crashed) and I would like to now hook up the iMac to be able to use Netzero as my ISP. Can this be done?

Yes it can be done if you are in OS9 under your apple menu control panels you will see a Tcp/ip setting. In there change the setting to modem built in then put in the phone number you wish to dial and it should work. There also use to be a setting called free PPP that would work also.

Sorry missed the Dsl part used to net zero being dialup. You should be able to go into the TCP/IP settings and put it on Built in ethernet and using DHCP. That should make it go out and find a net zero ip. I am also assuming you are using the built in eithernet port here. The Bondi didn't come with wireless but external ones could be purchased. If you are using wireless select that in your control panel.

If you can find an older SVGA monitor, try hooking it up to the port on the back of your mac. If you get video then chances are the LCD display is shot.

My mother has a Apple iMac 17 Model A1058. I'm not quite familar with iMacs..and can't figure out why it powers off, once it's turned on.

hmm may be a problem with it or the energy saving function is set, click the apple top left and go to system settings, if its not there, check on the task bar (gears picture) or in finder and it basically has the same standby settings as a windows pc

Next time for any older model Apple portables including the MacMINI that no longer has its AppleCare has major issues and need to be fixed, and you have a small knowledge of how to follow instructions and use a screw driver then you should go to ifixit.com. They have the part that you would need and as a bonus to you when you order from them is they send you the how to remove old and replace with new. Step by Step with precise information and so you don't get totally lost in type there is an image to each step. The person who made that site sure did do a great and helpful job. And the instructions to do any of the jobs that is needed is given to all for FREE. You don't need to buy anything from them or give them any info for the free info. ((this is for anyone that might think i am punting for them-which i am-and they don't know i am)) < and i don't get squat from em but the same information you get >

''Twain is Missing'' keeps coming up - can't scan from printer

Download appzapper , you get 5 free goes with it. Drag your old HP software onto it and it will find all the hidden files. Zap it. Hopefully this will have delete all HP related files.

Download the latest files from HP for your Mac. If you do this first AppZapper will delete this as well, so you'll only have to download it again.

So basically, you're deleting all the old files for HP Deskjet 5510 printer and installing all new ones.

How do I get an ip from netzero?

If you are using DHCP it should get one when you start your computer. I am not sure your computer skills but I have seen people plug a phone cable into the dsl modem so make sure you have an Ethernet cable pluged into the ethernet port. Sorry if you knew that but I have seen it before. One other question does your provider require a certain browser to get setup first? Under OS9 in the system Pref folder there is a TCP/IP preference, you can trash that and reboot then go back to control panels and reset your settings to ethernet/ using dhcp.

How to connect to dsl

You need to install either an "airport card" in your system or if you already have one in your computer, you need to download "airport" from the apple website. This is the only way MAC's can receive wireless signal.

Wireless Modem don"t connect

well imac G4's don't  have built in airport (wireless internet) included as usual with apple its another item you must buy an airport extreme card  then hook it up to an airport base station another item to buy via wireless internet then hook you airport extreme base station up to your modem via ethernet. whew ok now sync the airport base station to your imac using airport set up application then select your network and type your WEP password and viol internet in about 1 hour if your lucky hope this helped my fingers hurt now LOL.
