Most likely, if you have not set the power settings in the control panel to do this, you have a heat problem.
This can be tested by turning on the computer and using it until it freezes or turns off. Wait a few minutes and if it turns on again, it is most likely heat. Check to see if the cooling fan is running. Also, with canned air, blow out the dirt that accumulates in the case.
