Forgot password to log on to windows xp professional on dell latitude d420

there's not much you can do about it but here's ways to remember

1) use the forgot password Icon

2) you can try to load a Linux on then get all your files out of the HDD then reinstall windows XP.

if you really cant remember your password then do number 2 and for a Linux I would use Zorin OS works just like windows 7 but with Linux capability's.

Cant remember password for lap top how do I use command prompt to open laptop without password

magooster857,
You cannot use a command prompt to find the password of your computer. If you made a recovery disk from within Windows you can boot to it to recover your password. You will need to purchase software online to recover your password or reinstall Windows.

Son cannot remember the password/admin password to boot his dell inspiron 2200 win xp i am willing to reinstall win xp but dell wants twice the cost of what this box is worth.

The only solution I can offer is, go to www.ebay.com type in laptop, make and model, administration password, you should get a list of software that should help, remember when you purchase, it is for win xp

Is there any way to get on a latitude 2100 if you don't know the password. My son cant remember it. Thanks..

Are there any other accounts on the computer that you know the password for? If so, you may be able to log into one of them as an administrator and change your son's password. You didn't say what operating system, but look in Control Panel / User Accounts, if you can get in.
There are several third party password recovery tools out there. Use at your own risk.
You can always reinstall Windows on the machine, but you'll lose all the data.

Hope this helps! If so, please leave a rating!

Restart the computer in safe mode. Log in as administrator. Go to control panel-user account and then remove the password from there.

Thanks

Resetting the password

Remove the battery . Short the grounding strips made for this purpose on the mother board,or the battery terminals,if you can't find the strips.  Reinsert the battery and the pass word will be gone.

Yes, when you switch the laptop on hold down the F8 key until you see a black screen with a list of white text, one of the options will be "Safe Mode", use the arrow keys to highlight safe mode (just safe mode, not safe mode with anything) and press return. The computer will start to the welcome screen and you will see a user-name you don't normally see called "Administrator". Click on Administrator and you will find it is not password protected (in spite of the fact that the Administrator account has more access to the system than any other account!) when the administrator profile loads it will ask you if you want to continue in safe mode and you do. click start, click control panel and click on users and groups now click on your son's user account and click remove password. now click back, click on the Administrator account and click change password, the old password should be left blank and you're new Administrator password should be something at least 7 letters, numbers and special characters (!@£$%^&*) long that you can remember. Now just restart and let it start up normally, once loaded advise your son to set a password he can remember or at least write down somewhere safe.
