Question about Irons

1 Answer

Premature shutting off

Iron works OK for 1 minute, " auto" light flickers and iron cools off.

I have Rowenta mod. # DG 050.90.54.1.00, 1858.60. When I plug it in, the light comes on when the iron is hot and it works fine. I am aware of the auto shut off and how it works but when mine shuts off, moving it won't activate it again. I have to unplug it and plug it in again to get it to heat back up. It is very annoying when working on quilt blocks where I press seams and blocks frequently.

    Exactly the same problem!

  • Anonymous Dec 19, 2008

I am now experiencing the same problem -- iron heats for a minute, and then light starts flickering and heat goes off. The iron is over a year old, and I loved it (up until this problem occured). I have already purchased a newer, snazzier Rowenta, but would like to repair this one...Does it make sense to bring the iron to a small appliance repair place and ask them to disable the motion sensor? I was going to send it to one of the authorized Rowenta repair centers, but if a local can do it quicker and easier, I'd rather do it that way....

The only thing you can do is change out the motion sensor which is 1n the machine or disable it

Premature shutting off

Have you try with lower heat setting?
It seems like it might be thermostat or thermal fuse that is not working properly.

I was given a Rowenta Effective with no instruction booklet and I can't get it to work properly. When I turn it on it gets hot but soon after that bottom light goes out and the auto off light blinks

If you start ironing with it, does it come back on? It usually doesn't take long for auto-shut-off irons to turn themselves off--a few minutes in the upright postion, and about 30 seconds if left sitting in the down position. Once you start the ironing motion, it should come back on.

I have a Rowenta Pro. Iron, model DE-86.1A with auto shut-off. It sticks on auto shut-off. I have to move it around for it to heat up, as indicated by the sensor light on the top.

I believe that is how the safety feature works.

Once the iron detects no movement for a certain period of time (the iron assumes you have finished ironing) the iron will shut of the heating element.

One you have moved it around, the timer should prevent it from auto shutting down for a period of time.

Rowenta DM880 Auto shutoff - Shuts off too frequently

This is a problem with a lot of Rowenta irons. It is the auto shut off that is not working properly and the only way to fix it is to have it disassembled and the switch hardwired to be on whenever the iron it plugged in. It is a thermal metal switch and it just stops working and then the iron will not turn on and the yellow light blinks.

Iron No Longer Heats Up

Recommended solution, gently shake, did not work.

Considering the iron was at a minimum two years old, I decided to purchase another Rowenta. I found the recommended solution documented on a FAQ sheet enclosed with the new iron.

I actually own another Rowenta iron (I now have three) that has the same issue. I will send one iron, the one manufactured in Germany, to a Rowenta Service Center to see if can be repaired - it was the first Rowenta iron I purchased and it provided several good years of service.

Premature shutting off

Hi have a nice day! Ensure that the unit is tightly plugged into a working outlet.
Some units are equipped with our patented Motion Smart Auto Off technology. Moving the iron will cause it to begin to reheat.
