I replaced the door gasket on a GE TBX20 fridge, but now the door will not close at the bottom. It is as if the lower part of the door is warped.

Hi,

The gasket was not properly replace. Here is a simple way to fix it. You can do this yourself very easily.

When installing a new gasket, push the gasket bead under the gasket retainer with your fingers. Refrigerator doors tend to warp when the gasket retainer screws are loosened. To correct this, realign the door by hand after installing the new gasket. To straighten a warped door, pull at the bottom and push at the top, or pushing at the bottom and pulling at the top should fix this problem. Close the door to check the alignment.

Repeat as often as necessary, then tighten the gasket screws.

To remove the gasket, loosen all retainer screws and pull it out from behind the gasket retainer. Do not remove all the screws. If the new gasket is crimped from being packaged, place it in warm water until it regains it's original shape. It should lie flat around the door when applied and tightened. If it doesn't, remove the gasket and start over.

Gaskets are inexpensive and it's a good idea to check your refrigerator gasket after several years of ownership. If it is cracked, gets mildew constantly, replace it.

Thanks for contacting Fixya.

Warpage seems to be the problem. Your re-algnment suggestion seems to be working. I am still testing.

Hi, GE refrigerators have plastic cam risers on the bottom of the door to help close and stay shut, if they break you will have this problem with the door, look at the bottom of the other door and you will see what I mean!
Take care

The fridge door won't close all the way , is there an adjustment on the hinges

Check the bottom fridge door hinge. There should be two plastic cams, one that mounts to the door and one that mounts to the hinge. From your discription it sounds as if thoes cams have broke and need to be replaced

Top freezer door pops slightly open when frig door is closed

try to adjust hinges and check the door gaskets for pinching. Also I have seen that if the fridge is slightly pitched forward and not slightly towards the back gravity sometimes this causes the problem you describe.

On my GE Profile side by side the Fridge side the door will close and then pop open. The door has been making a clicking sound when opened. When it pops open it does not close again.

This can happen if the door gasket is not seating properly. If it is deformed you can correct this by pouring boiling water along the deformed area, then closing the door and keeping it closed while the gasket cools and sets. Please check first that it has been correctly installed, there are screws and a bracket behind the gasket. Another problem could be the alignment of the door. It is possible to adjust alignment on the hinges. One other thing is to raise the front "feet" so that the fridge slightly leans backwards.

Freezer door is canted forward. This separates the gasket from the frame and allows air in. Large amount of frost build up.

HI thanks for the question. the fridge door should close by itself if opened and then just let go of door. if not that way. raise the front of the fridge to make it work that way. thanks the appliance doc. please rate my answer. thanks.
