We've already wiped it off and defrosted it many times. It's not a fridge but an Avanti ice maker? Does that make a difference?

Does it feel like the ice cube maker walls are worn down or very sticky? possibly the lever that ejects the ice has frozen internally. Please leave it unplugged for 8 hours and see if it starts working. Please let me know if you need any help

Thank you for using Fixya, good luck and have a good day

Thank you for the model number. Can you think of anything that changed right about the time the problem started? Did any other electrical equipement get plugged into the same electrical circuit? Did the ambient temperature of the room change?

What position is the metal ice maker arm in? Does the arm look like it is in good condition and functioning properly?

  • Dean Joly
    Dean Joly Apr 22, 2008

According to the manual here: http://www.avantiproducts.com/manuals/im...

The main reasons for the ice maker not to make ice is air flow to the front grill, the arm being in the wrong position, or a problem with the water flow.

The water flow does not seem to be a problem.

Looking at the wiring diagram, this unit is quite simple in design. Can you hear the fan turning when the compressor comes on?

Hey dearheart

thats simply means hat you need to clean the ejection slot for the ice maker. it tendss to also get frozen and thus the ice wont eject.

actually, what you need to do is check if there is anything you can do with the ejector. if you see that it also gets wet and the ice cubes sometimes gets stuck there, clean as often as possible to keep those ice coming out.

if ever you see no fault there and it seems to be ok, the ice may sometimes get stuck because of wrong position when its ejecting.

with regards to ginkos solution, i'd very well go with what he suggested. defrost you r ref so that you can very well see if this will solve the ejecting issue.

thanks

If the above solution (dethawing ) does not fix the problem, then either the heater (evaporator drum) or the thermostat is faulty.

Take the front cover off the ice maker and check the heater and thermostat for continuity.
Check this link on how to test your ice maker.

The ice maker works in the same way, it freezes water in cubes and then releases them using an heater system. If you still have the problem after defrost and cleaning, then the heater is not working properly and ice remains stuck inside.
In this case you should find a repairman in your area to test and eventually fix the heater.

If you want to fix it yourself you should start by testing the evaporator fan motor, you will need to work with power on, therefore , if you do not have previous experience in servicing appliances, for safety reasons I still suggest to call a technician.

If it won't freeze the cubes that because the freezer section is not cold enough to freeze them. the ice maker itself dose not have any cooling in it. it all comes from the freezer. sounds to me like there may be a problem with the ice maker and it may need to be replaced.

Icemaker not making ice cubes.

Amana SXD22S2W refrigerators are made by Whirlpool and what you have happening is common with a couple possibilities. Most likely the W10245167 Water Inlet Valve is not shutting off after the fill time of about 7.5 seconds. If this is happening the water will slowly fill the ice maker tray above the lever that it should and causes the ice to connect together on the top thus not allowing the cubes to be harvested because they are basically welded together as a whole piece. And the other possibility is the ice maker itself is needing an adjustment of the water flow time. Below I will post a Icemaker Repair video telling how to adjust the time and other things to look for. This is possible but most times not always the case. Adjusting the flow time is delicate and a little change can cause too much or not enough water. Lets watch the icemaker a little closer and see if there is ice freezing up in the fill tube behind the ice maker. You have seen the leaky faucets before and an old W10245167 Water Inlet Valve can do just that making a mess inside your freezer and ice maker if leaking. Here is a Whirlpool Ice Maker Troubleshooting PDF You can find this info on this page HERE You will need Adobe Acrobat Reader to view these documents. The Adobe Acrobat Reader is available as a free download. I will be here should you have any questions, Thanks Sea Breeze

Freezer won't make ice cubes, but does provide cold water.

The water and ice maker are two seperate water control valves built onto the same. Your water control valve for the ice maker may be defective and require that you change the set. Fill ice maker with tap water and allow the water to freeze. If the ice maker dumps the ice into ice bin and then does not refill then this points to the water control valve. If the ice maker does nothing after water freezes then the problem is the ice maker. Send me a model number and I will look up the part numbers for you, Thanks, Sea Breeze

there are plastic arms on the ice maker, sometimes they bend and get jammed or when the ice got stuck it did damage to the motor and it finally died,if it's filling,a heater on the ice maker comes on,loosens up the cubes, the motor turns and dumps out the cubes,it sounds like you have a bad ice maker

Ice maker does not run. Tray fills with water and ice freezes but the cubes are not ejected into the tray. Wire loop is down.

You will probably need to replace your ice maker. There is a heater on the bottom that seperates the ice cube from the tray. More than likely this heater is defective, but it is all internal to the ice maker so you will need to replace the whole unit.

Water is leaking out of ice maker and freezing up where cubes are

Sounds like water valve is not closing all the way after the icemaker calls for water. This is because sediment in water builds up on valve seat therefore letting water pass through. Suggest replacing fill valve. Crescent shaped ice....ice maker on needs 4 ounces to fill icemaker, so any more than that will spill out.

Roper Ice maker wont kick ice cubes out of tray.

Remove white plastic cover on ice maker. On bottom you will notice the heater connections, check for voltage. If good, heater is most likely bad.
