Question about Cameras

3 Answers

Sirs, Perhaps you can help me. I have a kodak 8mm projector Cheveron 8 given to me by my father. The projector lamp still lights up and the motor starts up when I turn the projector on, The arms where the film spools are snapped on do not turn when I slide the foward or reverse switch. Perhaps there is a broken belt or spring that does not allow the spool arms to operate. I have no repair manual that shows me how to open the body of the projector to check if there is a broken belt or spring that advances or reverses the film. I have many old 8mm family films that I would like to view and place in order of event before I have DVD,s made for my family and grand kids. I would appreciate it very much if you are able to help me with this problem. With your help I might me able to make the repairs myself. Sirs, The first expert was familiar with my projector but did not give the information I need to open the projector. I know that I can go to a repair shop nfor advice or for the repair itself but thats not what I want to do. If I can find out how to open the projector where the belts are located I can slip them on myself and not have to pay someone to do a simple job. Thanks.

I will try to help, if I can. I haven't seen one of these in years, but I remember them. In those old days, holding screws were oftened covered by glued, metal plates, and under anything that could hide them. I took one of these apart years ago, and it's anything but easy to figure out. I've read there are 2 belts in this machine, so that's probably the problem, if you can get to them. Here is a website on Ebay that repairs them:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Projector-Repair-Service-16mm-8mm-Super-8mm_W0QQitemZ320449550989QQcategoryZ4791QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp4340.m8QQ_trkparmsZalgo%3DMW%26its%3DC%26itu%3DUCC%26otn%3D5%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D7029445374875247416
It's going to be a process to get it apart. You might take it by a camera repair shop, and see if they will give you enough hints to take it apart, doesn't hurt to try. Here is a website for the 2 belts:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Kodak-CARALUX-8MM-Chevron-8-10-Projector-Belts-2-Belts-/350115827471?cmd=ViewItem&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item5184878f0f
Good luck, and hope this helps.
