Your best bet is to use Compressed Air to clean the machine the right way instead of blowing into it. and dont use rubbing alchol on discs - this will ruin game discs.. Better to buy a cleaning disc just made for games, you can get it at the gaming stores, such as GameStop, BuyBack Games, etc.... If after you did this and your system still isnt reading the disc then the system is defective.

Clean the disc with rubbing alcohol. There may be scratches, which causes the Ps2 to not recognize the disc. Also, gently blow into your ps2. There may be a dust build up.

SOURCE: No data error all discs, even new ones

Hi STokesG101,

I am StokesG too.  Greg Stokes From South Carolina USA.  You Laser has melted.  If you good with Electronics repair like me, you could open the case back up and replace the laser.  The Ribbon cable that connects to the laser is held in place.  You have to carefully unlatch the retainer that holds the Ribbon in.  I think it is read and pulls out on both ends of the ribbon connector.  Its not a flip up type, it is a pull out type connector.  You can get another laser from www.repairmyvideogame.com

I can replace the laser for you for $40 which includes return shipping.  My email is repairtech@playstationclinic.com and I run the website www.playstationclinic.com

SOURCE: My ps2 is not reading game discs. Screen says no data.

There is a possibility that he LENS is failing. You may need to clean it with a lens cleaner but if that will not work, you might as well send it to repair shop and have them replace the LENS or go and modify it but that's a whole lots of story.

Ps2 Disc won't respond to a Ps3 when inserted.

Only the first version of the PS3 had PS2 backwards compatibility, They did make a special edition Metal Gear Solid version with it included but other than that no other PS3 will play PS2 discs... No matter what Add-On you install.

My ps2 wont read the disk. says there is no data. help

it's your laser with something like dust keeping it from reading the discs. Just get a simple CD cleaner kit, one that has the little brush on it and then of course put some solution on it. Rubbing alchol will due. This happens to everyone eventually.

Should do the trick.

If it doesn't do it after playing the cleaning disk three times for around 10 secs each, then you may want to open it up and put clean the laser lens directly with a rubbing alchol soaked que tip and a dry one. For more instructions on how to open it do a search on fixya and there is one guru who goes into great detail about this.
