To the motor housing. This will be a green screw on the top of the wire box in the back of the motor. It will be inside the wire box but on the outside edge of the housing.

How to install a power cord to a Hayward 1hp Power Flo Matrix pump.

One line lead wire to the L1 terminal, the other line lead wire to the L2 terminal and the green ground wire to the green grounded screw above the motor terminal board. It does not matter which wire, white or black, is on which terminal, L1 or L2, so long as one wire is on each terminal.

2nd Hayward Max Flo 2 hp pool pump stopped working again!!!

More than the motor it is probally a bad seal causing the problem with the motor. All you can do is be sure it is installed right when you put the new one in and if you see water under the pump take it apart and install a new one. I live in AZ and the water will evaporate before it gets to the ground under the pump so here this can be a real annoying problem. We quite often will have to look for calcium left behind when something leaks.

Here is a link for the users manual for these pool pumps. You should be able to not only see a diagram, but also read all about which valves should be open and which closed.

I am installing a Hayward Pool pump max flo II at 120 volt. I have 2 connections L1 and L2. Which one does the black hot wire go to.

Either one. Neutral to the other post. Be sure to set the voltage change device to 115V to match your incoming line voltage.
