EPSON WORKFORCE 840 AUTO FEED COPIES HAVE BLACK LINE DOWN THE SIDE

This was my exact problem. When scanning from the ADF, I had a vertical black line down every page. I cleaned the larger glass surface several times with no effect. Then, I discovered that ADF scans do NOT use the large glass area, but use the smaller, thinner glass area on the left side. It has a piece of thin plastic over the top of the glass. The scanner is fixed and the paper rolls through this area. So, if a speck of dirt is under the thin plastic piece or on top of the glass or on top of the thin plastic, it results in a black line down the whole page. Aha, so now I cleaned the thin plastic (both sides) and the top of the glass under the thin plastic - actually saw the black dot that was causing the problem and voila, problem solved.

Crank shaft timming marks 1986 volkswagen 1.8

You did not specify manual or automatic transmission. You actually have 4 marks to set up your cam, intermediate shaft (distributor) and your crankshaft. To rotate the motor over by use of a socket and ratchet, either loosen or remove your spark plugs. Remove the green colored plug on top of the transmission, it is located below your coolant tank. You will see either your flexplate (auto) or your flywheel (man) with notches on the outside diameter. Next, go to the lower belt pulley on the passenger side. You can use a 12 point socket on the center bolt to rotate the engine over. On the same pulley you are about to turn, there is a notch on the inside pulley edge. Look at the black lower timing belt cover between the pulley and engine block. You will see a small arrow at around 1:00 (as you look at the pulley). When the crankshaft is on #1 cylinder TDC, the small notch on the pulley will line up with this arrow. Now go back to the hole on top of the transmission. You'll see at the bottom of the threads an arrow. There is a diamond or oval shaped mark on the flywheel that lines up with this arrow. This is your crankshaft timing mark and will be used for enging timing. Use a white paint stick or something to mark it if is not clear.

There are two other marks for cam and distributor timing. With the crank at #1 TDC, remove the distributor cap. Note the rotor position. It should be pointed at the #1 spark plug. Pull straight up on the rotor to gain access to the thin black piece of plastic that covers the pickup. Remove the thin plastic cover and look at the aluminum edge and you will see a notch there too. This should be below your #1 plug wire.

The last one is on the camshaft gear. With the valve cover in place and cork gasket under it, remove the two 10mm nuts that hold the upper timing belt cover in place. One the bottom of the same cover, you'll find a shouldered nut. Remove it with an allen wrench. You can remove the upper cover now. From the front of the engine, look at the gear and find the single dot on the inside edge. Some gears have a dot on the outside but that is not what your looking for. The dot should be at the same height at the valve cover bottom edge (where the 8 bolts hold it down). If these three notches and dot are all in place, the timing belt is on correctly.

Hope it helps!

Black screen with a line of the picture running

The vertical sweep generator is dead. The circuit that controls the lines being drawn from top to bottom has malfunctioned or died. This not something you can fix, you will need a professional.

Tasco 6-24x42mm rifle scope parallax adjustment

Here's what you need to know about Mil Dots and rangefinding.

When you look through the scope you should see 5 mil dots on each axis, your scope may have broad lines taking place of the 5th mil dot if it is a "modified" mil dot scope. For measuring purposes, 1 mil is the distance from the center of one dot to the center of the one directly above or below it. 3/4 of a mil is the distance from the top of one dot to the bottom of the one above it, or the "space in between dots". 1/4 mil comprises a single dot, the space between the top of one dot and the bottom of that same dot.

A quick calculation is Size of Target (In Yards) x 1000 / Size of target in mils = Range in Yards

Miliradian or "Mil" is an angular unit of measure, so if you were shooting at 1000 yards and moved up 1 miliradian that would be one inch impact moved up.

Anyway lets say you have a 30" target and we need to find the range... using your scope you place the bottom of the target at the CENTER of a mil dot and count how many mils up, good estimation is key... I'll draw a little text diagram, an asterisk * will be the target top and bottom, and parentheses () will be a mill dot
( * )--------(  )-----*---(  )
Now lets assume the asterisk on the left is the bottom of your target and the one on the right is the top, I put Ten Hyphens in between each dot so if you count from the left you should get about 1.6 Mils. Its real easy to do it in your head, you already know two whole dots is one mil so you just have to estimate whats to the right (or top if you were looking down a scope).

So we know the target is 30" and we have a Mil Reading of 1.6
30/36= .833 so 30" is .833 Yards

So now we can use the equation .833 x 1000 / 1.6 = 520.6 Yards is the distance of the target

Now you can also use Mil dots to do hold over for when the target moves or for wind and elevation but that gets extremely complicated.

Parallax in Rifle Scopes is explained here
http://www.6mmbr.com/parallax.html

There are many books and websites to confirm what I've said here, but the best way is to go out to your range and talk to some long range shooters and show them your rifle/scope etc and get hands on help.

Installed new drum

dark lines is probably caused by the thin glass of the copier. test by making copy on glass, does it have lines? if no look carefully at the small 1" glass there is probably some ink dots or white out or something on it, clean with alcohol and try.

fish scales uniformly are coming from the fuser, ( where it gets hot as its coming out) check. You already changed drum which was a posssibility.

Also check the toner and see if it is solid black.

Red Dots

You can get rid of the red dots by adjusting the V-scan voltage down, it's on the panel sticker inside the unit, you can find the test point on the DC to DC pcb, and the adjustment pot is on the same board, lower it as you watch the screen and only lower it enough to rid the screen of the dots
