Wireless connection for e310

http://www.ebay.com/itm/100-TESTED-GUARANTEED-DELL-DIMENSION-3100-E310-MOTHERBOARD-JC474-WJ770-FAST-S-H-/321044602266?pt=Motherboards&hash=item4abfbfdd9a

The two long White expansion slots on the motherboard, are PCI Slots.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PCI_local_bus

If you have one available you can use a PCI Wireless adapter card,
(PCI Wireless Card);

One example,

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4389486&CatId=2701

OR,

A USB wireless adapter,

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=357235&CatId=2704

Make sure your router is a wireless router, AND either it has a built-in modem, or your internet provider has provided you with one.

There are different setups, and different types of wireless.
Most common are DSL and Cable.
You can also go the satellite route IF available.

Dell optiplex GX620 desktop has an ethernet port on it, that is not an adapter, I cannot connect to the internet, I downloaded and installed a driver for a wireless ethernet adapter, but that has not...

Okay,..........

1) You can download a wireless Ethernet adapter driver all day, but if you Do Not have a wireless adapter card installed in your computer, the drivers do you no good.

Or if you do not have a wireless USB adapter plugged into a USB port.

Example of a wireless adapter card,

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4695358&CatId=2692

Example of a wireless USB device,

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=6367137&CatId=2692

Example of an Ethernet adapter card,

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=686143&CatId=200

If you are just going to hardwire the computer, just buy an Ethernet adapter card, (PCI version), and install it in your computer, (On the motherboard), in any available white PCI slot.

IF it is the Mini Tower model.

The Desktop, Small Form Factor (SFF), and Ultra Small Form Factor (SFF) computers, are too small in width for a regular size Ethernet adapter card.

They need a Low-Profile Ethernet adapter card,

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833114034

This is for a Dell Optiplex GX620 Mini-Tower computer,

http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/opgx620/en/ug/A02/mtabout0.htm#wp1051997

Scroll the page down until you come to the bold blue heading - System Board Components
This is an illustration of a Top view of the Mini-Tower's motherboard.

16 and 17 point to two PCI slots.
This is where an Ethernet adapter card that is the PCI version, will plug into.

PCI slots are White in color.
An example of a basic PCI slot, ( 3 are shown),

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:PCI_Slots_Digon3.JPG

If you do decide to go wireless;

1) Wireless networking operates at half of the speed of wired networking.

A computer that is wired directly to an Ethernet adapter card, is twice as fast on the internet, as a computer that is connected wireless.

2) Make sure your Router is capable of wireless.
Make sure the wireless router has a built-in Modem, or that you have a separate Modem.

[ For DSL.
Phone line connects to Filter. Filter has a place for a telephone cable, and an Ethernet cable.
Ethernet cable connects to Filter, and other end connects to Modem.
Ethernet cable goes from Modem to Wireless router that does not have a built-in Modem.

OR,
Phone line connects to Filter. Ethernet cable from Filter goes directly to wireless router, that has a built-in Modem.

Computer has to have a USB wireless device, or a wireless adapter card, installed.

I have a dell vostro pc and i now have a wirelse router. Do i need a card to make a wireless connection?

Unless your wireless router is standing next to your PC (in which case you can plug in a network cable between you pc and router) you will need a get a Wireless PCI adapter. If your tower is vostro 200 slim then you need to make sure the adapter has a small backplate since the slimline towers are very "thin". Perhaps a USB Wireless adapter is best in that case.

How to connect a wireless router to a emachine T6520 desktop pc

If your router is near the desktop then you are best to use a wired connection to the router using a network patch cable. If it's farther and you want to use wireless then you would need to add a wireless adapter (USB or PCI) to the desktop. These are available for about $20.

Once everything is attached you have to reboot everything so your router can assign IP addresses.

If your wireless pciG has a static IP address that is not in the proper range e.g. (if the router is 192.168.0.1 and your desktop is 192.168.15.1 then you can not log into the router, the router has to assign IP addresses in its range of 0.2-0.50)

If your IP address is assigned dynamically, then everything has to be re-booted so the router can assign the address in it's range.

Emachine model t3302 ethernet card

This is how the wireless world works. You buy a wireless router with a four port switch. Your DSL or cable connects to that. A cable called a Rj45 connects the DSL or cable to the back of the wireless router. You also buy a wireless network card for your PC. After running the software for the router & the wireless nic card including setting up a home network through windows your daughter will be able to connect that computer to your network from any room in the house. Below is a link to a wireless router:
http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=10005578
You can connect up to four computers to the wirless router. A computer that does not connect to the router by a Rj45 must use a wireless network card. Linksys WMP54G Wireless-G PCI Adapter Retail: http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=252286
As you will see there is a big differance between a NIC card & a wireless card.
