Question about Kenwood KDC-MP342U Car CD Player

1 Answer

I have a Kenwood car stereo model # KDC-MP342U. Protect mode has been activated on it. I found I had a frayed wire on a speaker from window movement and have replaced the wire. When I reset the radio and enter the code.. it goes right back to protect mode... is there a way to ''hard reboot'' the thing?

My unit says protect on it and i can't find my paperwork with the code. Can you help me?

Usually the "protect" light indicates you have a shorted speaker or speaker wire. Most speakers have a rating of 4-8 Ohms. If it is lower than 4 the unit will go into a protect mode to keep the internal amp from being destroyed. Make sure none of your speaker wires are touching metal or each other. A blown speaker could cause this to happen also.

PROTECT (Blink): The speaker wire has a short-circuit or touches the chassis of the vehicle, and then the protection function is activated. Wire or insulate the speaker cable properly and press the reset button. If the "PROTECT" code does not disappear, consult your nearest service center.

I have a kenwood it says,kdc-mp142 and all of a sudden it just says protect. it wont do anything

The Kenwood radio will generally give a "PROTECT" error if the amp or receiver is being overloaded. This may mean that some of your wiring may have gotten frayed, one of your speakers isn't putting out the right voltage, or the receiver has decided to go bad. Make sure all of your connections in the back of the radio are solid and not frayed. If that's not the problem, try running each of the speakers one at a time. If one causes the radio to go into protect mode, that's your culprit.
If neither of these are the issue and the radio decides to stay in "protect" mode, your receiver may have seen better days and may need a replacement.

Solution: Wire or insulate the speaker cable properly and press the reset button.

Here is a copy of the Instruction Manual for the Kenwood KDC-X790 and KDC-MP732.

How can i deactivate the protect that blinks in my kenwood car stereo, the stereo i have is the kenwood kdc mp342u model

Disconnecting the terminal will take to much time.. In between the skip button ,and the #1 on your stereo there is a little dot. Barely noticable unless you know what your looking for, take a safety pin or a screw( anything with a little tip) and push it in. This will restart your stereo. (Car Must be on)

The screen on my KDC-MP342U just blinks with the word PROTECT

first, check your speakers and speaker wires for shorts, then disconnect power to the radio for a few seconds and reconnect it. if that doesn't work, then you probably have a bad output ic.
