Mcdevito75 here, If you changed the battery yourself, you"ll have to go back into the watch to make sure the buttons are presssing fully, and on the correct spot on the quartz movement, some times these button contacts get mis-aligned due to moveing the movement while replaceing the battery, you"ll also have to check the battery contact in the watch also, make sure the battery is being held fairly tight, the battery could have gotton loose. If you had the shop replace the battery, return to the shop for adjustments.

After replacing a battery in a timex ironman with data link, they tell you to short the ac pad and the vss pad. Were are those points located?

You will find them on the module itself.
So after replacing the battery look on the PCB (printed circuit board) for the letters"AC" and "VSS". Adjacent to these markings there should be little contact points (probably gold or silver looking in colour)
Use a paper clip or similar and bridge (short) these two points simultaneously. Please rate my solution.
