Re: whirlpool dryer calypso touch pad stopped working
CHECK YOUR INSRUCTION MANUAL TO SEE IF THERE IS A CHILD LOCKOUT FEATURE ON THE CONTROL PANEL. USUALLY, THERE IS A TOUCH PAD TO HOLD FOR 5 SECONDS TO LOCK/UNLOCK THE CONTROLS. YOU CAN ALSO TRY UNPLUGGIN THE DRYER FOR 5 MINUTES TO SEE IF THE MICRCOMPUTER WILL RESET.
a 6ya Repairman can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

Re: the touch screen stopped working this morning. Can't do anything. Is there a reset button for the computer? No there is not. If the touch screen is blank and you know that you have power at the outlet, then the computer module has been fried and will need to be replaced. Possible reasons for a computer module going bad are most commonly due to power surges. If you plug in an outlet surge suppressor then plug your computerized washer and dryer into it, that will save you BIG $$$ over time.
You can try tripping the breaker a half dozen times or so, or else leave it unplugged/without power for a couple days. Once it is plugged back in you may have to leave it overnight and then try it, but that almost always revives it. I notice the problem when I don't use the washer/dryer once a week or don't push any buttons during that time to activate it in some way. Problem seems to occur more frequently in the winter when house is cooler.
i tried looking up your code, the closest thing i could find was a E3,says it's for a calypso dryer,it's the touch pad and you can only see this in diagnostics mode, hope this helps, also i couldn't find your model number, there isn't a D in them
I've had a similiar problem on my calypso. In my case the key pad would go dead after washing or pushing stop after a few minutes. If I unpluged the unit for a few minutes it would work again. This would appear to be in the controller board. I removed the board and inspected it finding no problems. After re-installing the board the washer appears to be working again. My conclusion is that there is a loose connector/connection. I'd suggest you remove and re-install all the connectors on the controller board. This is the board closest to the power chord.
You ever hear of dog years? Well Calypso follows those same guidelines. So your machine is 35 years old. These are the Edsel's of washing machine fame. I had a Calypso for 6 1/2 years. 3 pumps, numerous circuit boards, drive motors, phone calls and arguements with Whirlpool, along with machine downtime. I finally junked it and bought a Whirlpool Duet 9200 HT (get the made in Germany machine). A world of difference in wash quality. Fresh smelling unballed clean clothes. The Calypso was removed from the market and the subject of a class action lawsuit. Just Google it and start reading. Get comfortable first. There's a lot to read.
