Question about Kenmore Dishwashers

Open Question

Kenmore dishwasher # 665.16362301 works but started making noise

My Kenmore dishwasher model# 665.16362301 just started making a buzzing/grinding noise, but it is still working. It doesn't make this noise while it's filling and draining; only during the wash cycles. The sound seems to be coming from under the unit.

I don't see anything obvious (like a spoon) sticking out of the bottom drain holes. Is there anything I can check, or should I just keep using it until it breaks and the problem becomes obvious?

Thanks

SOURCE: Diswasher motor making noise during wash cycle

It could be the impeller on the motor. The impeller fits over the shaft of the motor and might have split/broken up. That funny noise is probably the shaft spinning inside the damage impeller. Fortunately the impeler is fairly inexpensive and easy to replace. I believe there are one or two parts/covers to remove that are held in by a roughly half dozen torx screws.

SOURCE: whining noise with Kenmore 16032 dishwasher

I had a similar issue, I removed the lower spray arm (had to hold center plastic tab with pliers and then unscrewed and lifted up the arm). Then I removed the cover with the screen filter(4 screws) and then removed the top half of the stainless chopper housing (1 screw). Found that things like cherry pits, elastic bands, bread plastic ties had blocked the water inlet to the chopper and the area around the chopper blade. Cleaned it all up, reassembled and machine works great! Mine was so blocked that I was hardly getting any water pressure to the upper rack.

SOURCE: ariston dishwasher sticks on drain

hi you may have something in the sump there's a screen on the right side ofthe spray arm with 2 screws remove them and take screen off use yourfingers to probe the cavity be careful it could be glass. If there is something in here it will make a grinding noise and stay in drain cycle forever.

If it does not correct the problem

!.You may have an electric pump . and it could be a check valve at the pump and hose assembly...where the check valve is...see below . so it could be a bad pump but I doubt it.

GE dishwashers will have a sumpentrance screen ( #4 ) that should beremoved and checked for any gookus, see 1 or 2 screws on the cover top, which isbehind the lower spray arm. Almost all ( some newer GE dishwashers have a separatedrain pump and motor - but for our purpose, we will talk about the mostcommon GE dishwashers ) GE dishwashers have a drainsolenoid ( #1 ) that can fail and stopthe draining. If the solenoid cannot pull in the silver plunger, the drain portwill not open to allow the motor and pump assembly to drain the water out. Thesolenoid can be ohmedwith an ohm meter for continuity, or tested to see if it is receiving 110-120 volts AC. Many GEdishwashers have a selfclean filter ( #3 ) inside at the back. The draining water must pass through a plunger in the self clean filter body. This can get clogged up, or the plunger may twist and distort and not allow thedraining water to get past. The filter can be removed from the inside and theplunger will twist out of the self cleaning body for testing/checking. Next obstaclefor the draining water in the backflush valve ( #2 ). This valve can twistor distort and block the water flow as well. The drain port will need to beaccessed to check this flapper valve, the drain port will untwist from the selfclean filter body. All hoses in-between the items mentioned above and the drainhose itself all the way to the house plumbing should be checked forrestrictions.

Some extra filter, draining tips and pictures....

During the wash and rinse modes of the cycle, soiled waterfalls down the back of the tub and into the filter area. The water comes throughthe filter and back into the tub. During the wash and rinse periods all ( wehope! ) the water will pass through the filter. The soil will settle into thecollection chamber and is held there. When the dishwasher goes into the pump outmode the water in the sump is pumped through the collection chamber. This closesthe piston valve to the inside of the tub. The pump flushes the collectionchamber of all the food soil and pumps it down the drain. A check valve islocated in the drain line port. This valve allows the water to flow in the draindirection only and prevents the water from coming back into the tub. The drainline check valve must close in the back flow direction or the piston valve inthe collection chamber may not reopen into the tub after the pump out iscomplete. Water should "fall" through the filter and go back into thetub....the heavier food particles go down into the chamber and are collected.

Hereis a link for you to check out...I have all this info in my data basebut since it is in PDF format it does not translate well to thisformat...

I hope this helps...good luck and good day...please rate my effort......thanks....The Fang.

Please provide model number of the kenmore dishwasher.

Is there water in the base when the wash is complete? There could be couple of pumps in some Kenmore dishwashers - so hard to know which one until model number is known.

My Kenmore Elite dishwasher makes a buzzing noise when going through the wash cycle. It's a couple years old and I don't want to replace it!

the possible causes.it could be some hard debris near the chopper blade inside the pump or some times water seal on the pump goes bad and water leaks into the motor bearing/rusting it and starts grinding noise.open the pump from inside and reach the choper blade and look for any hard debris.if find nothing then motor assly needs to be chgd.

I have a very similar dishwasher, with a very similar problem. I fixed it by removing debris from the water evacuator pump located towards the front of the bottom of the machine (the last motor before the drain hose. In my case, grape stems had clogged it up. Once emptied, it purrs once again. NOTE: don't disassemble the motor, just flush it out, there is an o-ring gasket that is a bear to re-install.

Kenmore Elite 137889, grinding noise

If the noise is like a shaking of rattling , like coins being shaked , then it is an object trapped inside the tub.

If instead the noise is a loud grinding , that may get louder on high speed, then it is usually a bad drum bearing.

The drum bearing is replaced by accessing the bottom side of the washer, and is a not a simple repair.

Kenmore 721.80524500 makes a buzzing, grinding noise

Your problem is due to the "magnetron" arcing to the wave guide within the microwave. Picture someone arc-welding stuff together inside the microwave casing, that's essentially what's happening. It is a fire hazard and you should stop using the microwave immediately. As far as I know, there isn't a recall on that particular model (though there was on another similar Kenmore/Whirlpool model) so if it's out of warranty, you're out of luck.

Mine eventually "fixed itself". I think some debris got caught and eventually (5 cycles or so) got ground up and sent through the drain. The noise changed each time it got closer "flushing out"
