If you mean a product called WinAntiSpyware, it is actually a fake antispyware program, instead it will install spyware and viruses on your computer! Also, if you paid for it by credit card, you may even become a victim of identity theft! I would contact your credit card company immediately to have the charge removed. Also, you will need an expert to come over in-person and remove it from your computer, it's not easy to remove.

What spyware are you using

Its not avg is it and also is it a free version.
Usually most free ones dont work and you might find you have to pay for the full version to actually get the spyware such as avg.

The best spyware i have ever found is spybot this is free and updated regularly most businesses use spybot search and destroy witch i have found that it finds more spyware and viruses than any other spyware progs i have tried i just run spybot every couple of days then it lists all the possible threats and eliminates them when you ask it to.
As your just says spyware and no name then the chances are it could be spyware itself so unless you paid for it i would uninstall this and install spybot search and destroy as i have found this unbetable so i would give this a try

Stop pop ups free

D-MAC852 is correct asking for more information concerning OS and browser used.
If your using Windows you can virtually eliminate the majority of the advertising junk and pop ups with the Browser Firefox running a plugin called adblockplus. If your machine has spyware already installed.
This may be pushing the advertising/pop ups you are experiencing.
SuperAntispy is a good "Free" utility that will get rid of some of the most stubborn spyware. I usually run this once a Month more if I suspect nefarious activities. :)
This is for Windows so hopefully this will be useful for you:

That should be the hard drive activity light. Its perfectly normal for that that to blink erratically or go out completely at times.

Computer has a red lite on, and very slow, now wont let me send emails or chat online.

The red light indicates that the hard drive is working (writing or reading data).  It is normal for this to flicker when the computer is running.  However, if it is on constantly or close to it, it can indicate the activity of unwanted programs (spyware or virus).
Spyware is the most likely reason you also cannot send emails or chat online.  I would recommend bringing your computer in to a tech somewhere that can perform a virus/spyware clean for you.

this is definetly a virus or a spyware......i suggest you to use kaspersky internet security 7.0.1.325 antirus.....you just unistall norton and use this.....as till date this has highest detection rate of antivirus.....mostly your problem will be solved with this....by just scanning with this antivirus your virus or spyware will be detected.....but i suggest to use spyware doctor software separately for spyware......some spyware will not be detected by kaspersky itself.....but dont worry....if you scan with spyware doctor software....your spyware will be detected 100% by spyware doctor.....but please before scanning using both....please update both kaspersky and spyware doctor software.....otherwise it will not be detected.....you can use both simultaneously......no problem will come......i am a software engineer and i have experience in this.....thats why suggesting this idea.....try this...this will 100% solve your problem....

I have a toshiba satellite a-210 laptop only 8 months but it has become very slow to respond to mouse clicks. I am afraid I have a virus

You probably have spyware, especially if you surf the net a lot.

Download Ad-Aware from http://lavasoft.com/

also try spyware doctor: http://www.pctools.com/spyware-doctor/?ref=afl_nenextech

Ad-Aware is a great program for scanning and removing spyware and is free. Spyware Doctor removes more spyware, but cost money for the full version. The free version will scan, but won't remove much without you paying for it. It is a very good program though, and the free program will tell you if you have infections.

It is a virus or spyware try running a antivirus or antispyware prog if that doesn't help you will have a choice live with it(easy, but annoying), take it in (easy, but expensive), or save all your important files and reload everything (little more difficult, but cheap). Hope that helps you out. Either way you do it make sure to always have antivirus and antispyware running, you can get good ones for free. here are some links.
