Question about Canon PowerShot S2 IS Digital Camera

Too much light in pictures

My camera had the problem of Black images before and I got it fixed with the solution provided here (The Iris problem)
But now my camera is giving trouble with Outdoor pictures where it is giving too much light making pictures totally white. I tried with all possible modes and reducing the exposure but didn't help. Indoor pictures are OK but not great as earlier.
The movie mode works well, the videos are as fine as before. Just the problem with the outdoor light.

Could you please help me out.

thanks in advance.

Actually I tried this one before but it didn't help. Thanks a lot for your solution though.

I also used the "iris" fix, which worked fine, I can now take pics indoors just fine, color and everything else is good. No outdoor pics taken are good at all, almost a total white wash out. I also have changed settings to compensate for this, but nothing works, although some of the settings does give a somewhat better photo, even though most of the photo does still have the washout in it.

Is there any other way to adjust/fix this problem?

My lumix camera will come on, but the display for the pifture is black, how do i fix this

I think most of these questions about black LCD's and black pictures relate to a stuck shutter. My Lumix LX2 has this. The screen is black and so are the pictures. On looking at the shutter through a magnifying glass I took a shot and I saw that the iris works fine, but the shutter did not open. I am sending the camera for repair at a reasonable rate from Clearer images here in the UK.This is the email: sales@panasoniclumixrepair.co.uk. Time will tell won't it?

My i85 camera's lcd no longer displays what you are looking at. Just a black screen. All the menu items are there and working. The battery is charged. The power button is working as well as the lens open,...

The iris is probably shut closed or the CCD is bad. The iris controls the amount of light that enters the CCD (charged coupled device). Sometime the iris get moisture inside and cannot open. Or the CCD is defective. Leave it in a dry environment for a day. If it doesn't cure then return it to the store for a refund because the CCD will need to be removed and replaced.

I dropped my Canon FS100 camcorder a while ago and now it turns on, but there is no pictures. I can record, get audio, zoom, etc but the picture is just black. What is happening and how can I fix it?

The CCD may have been damaged and cannot process the image into an electrical signal or the Iris is stuck closed. It needs to be taken apart to fix.

More than likely the Iris that covers the CCD - just like in your eyes, is stuck open and cannot adjust to regulate the light to the CCD. Therefore you're getting bright pictures. The CCD is the component that captures the image and then converts it to an electrical signal to the processor or brain. The Iris getting stuck is usually caused by excessive moisture in the camera. The beach, where the humidity is high, will cause the iris to stick. Try leaving it in a dry storage for a few days to dry. Otherwise you'll need to take it in for repair.

A 620 canon camera iris does not open, photos seem

A stuck shutter is another common failure mode for digital cameras. The symptoms of a stuck or "sticky" shutter are very similar to CCD image sensor failure. The camera may take black pictures (for shutter stuck closed), or the pictures may be very bright and overexposed, especially when taken outdoors (for shutter stuck open). To confirm a stuck shutter, put the camera in any mode other than "Auto", and turn the flash OFF (you don't want to blind yourself for the next step). Next look down the lens and take a picture. You should see a tiny flicker in the center of the lens as the shutter opens and closes. If no movement is seen, then you likely have a stuck shutter. If so, please see this link for further info and a simple fix that may help.

White outdoor pictures

Theres no better way than to open it and fix the Stucked iris!! You stored your camera for so long in the wrong side or not in standing position. Camera mechanism has oil and grease inside (that is the culprit why your iris is stucked), and will tend to settle in one spot if you will keep it not moving for a long time. But if you really want to fix without opening the unit try to use a black board with different size or adjustable center hole, this or these will serve as your camera iris, the brightest uses the smallest hole, experiment what suits you best.

Black LCD Screen

Faulty main or secondary board. Could also be faulty light sensor or iris. Not a user fixable problem unless you can get another f601 with a broken lens etc with good boards (to replace boards). Or a dead camera with good lens assembly (contains iris).
Very fiddly if you have the parts!!!!!!

Best advise is to sell it as faulty on ebay.
