I know this may soundstupidly simple, but most of the time when your computer wont recognise you iPod it can be solved by simple turning your iPod off then on again, if this does not work you can try a number of different ways, but I would need to know what generation of iPod you have, and if it had been modified by jailbreaking etc. I would however recomend downloading the latest version of iTunes, or reinstalling iTunes.

Try to download the drivers for your MP3 in your PC.
OR
If the MP3 player has a memory card, try to connect it to the PC without the memory card.

My ipod screen has stopped responding any suggestions?

Hi, I don't know if you solved the problem with your iPod but you can try this as I had a similar problem and it worked for me:

Most problems with these older iPod's can be solved by resetting it (and I didn't lost anything stored on the device).

To Reset iPod:

1. Connect iPod to a power outlet using the iPod Power adapter.
2 Toggle the Hold switch on and off (set it to Hold, then turn it off again).
3. Press and hold the Select and Menu buttons for at least 6 seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

That's it. hope it solves your problem.

My ipod nano 8G won't respond

Get a new cable if everything else works that is your problem
Usually, unplugging, replugging it and then rebooting solves the problem.

your other options are a driver issue..either with the ipod drivers, itunes, or the USB drivers for your computer itself. since your ipod video and psp work fine, you can rule out USB drivers, but that doesn't rule out additional driver problems.

the other option is there's some kind of failure with your ipod..and sometimes if a device starts drawing power before doing any kind of communication with the computer (like when my rockbox-hacked ipod goes into charge only mode) then windows will assume there's a hardwire issue. the best way to determine if it's an issue with your ipods are take them to another computer and see if they work. if they work fine...try uninstalling and reinstalling itunes (back up your music and database) and see if that solves the problem. if none of that solves it and you know the ipod shuffles are good..then your system has suffered from the mysterious driver failure that's plagued a lot of systems. and generally the only real solution is to reinstall windows from scratch.
