Question about Dell Inspiron 6400 Notebook

1 Answer

My inspiron 6400 does not start. It goes into the bios scans for promblem then gives error message no drive detected (error code 2000-0141)After following instructions on the Dell site_ I reinstalled the hard drive but it didn't fix the problem. Does this mean I've lost all my photo's on the drive or is it somehow recoverable?

Hi
The hard drive has gone bad. photos are recoverable however you have to go to a local technician or drive savres to get the data recovered.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 and when I turn it on it tells me NO BOOTABLE DEVICE DETECTED This happen one other time and I rebooted my computer and it came back on but it did not work this time what can I...

NO BOOTABLE DEVICE When the PC cannot see a boot file/disk on either the hard disk or floppy drive it gives an error message "No bootable device. Insert boot disk and press any key"
There may be a hard disk problem.
Check the BIOS to see if the hard disk is detected, if not open the case and re-seat the hard drive and also where it connects to the motherboard.
If it still gives this error message and the BIOS does not detect this hard drive, then the hard drive is probably faulty.

To get the computer operating again, install a new hard drive in your computer and then install Windows on this hard drive plus the computer's device drivers and your programs.

INSTALL DISK 320 GB IN THE DELL BIOS does not show ISPIRON 6400

The biggest drive that was offered with that was a 120gb. So you should be ok as far as the 320 size. I did a 80 to a 320 and it worked. There shouldn;t be any jumpers to set on the drive. So I would check the power connector if it is seperate. You should hear or feel the drive spin up even if it isn't detected. The next thing is to check the bios and see if it is detected. That might be all it takes is to open the bios and force it to detect the drive instead of auto.
You may need to do a bios update.

Error message 0141

This error comes when the system is not detecting the hard drive. just remove the battery and hard disk drive and connect it again.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 and I am getting the error message 2000-0146

This error code is part of the DST (Disk Self Test). Unfortunately that particular error code is telling you that there are previous errors in the log. There are multiple things that can easily lead to hard drive errors.

The first thing I would do is a checkdisk. To initiate this, open My Computer. Right-Click on the C:/ drive and select Properties. Click on the tab that says Tools. And there is an option that says "check now" under Error Checking. Select both options on this tab: Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors.

This will likely give you a message saying it's unable to check now and will ask to do so on the next reboot. Restart your system and wait for the scan to finish. After this, check your logs and see if you're still getting the same errors.

Dell inspiron 1520 error code 2000-0146

I had the same problem and came across this solution that worked for me as well:
Re: windows Vista will not start 18 Aug 2009 07:28PM I was getting a the same error codes and couldn't get Windows to boot up at all. I went to BIOS set up (restart your computer and hit F12 when the BIOS screen comes up), went to onboard devices and changed the SATA Operations from ACHSI (don't know how it got there) to the factory default setting ATA. Then I started up in "repair mode" (which was an option that was coming up when I tried to boot up before but never worked) - it went through a repair check and went to login screen.
Prior to finding this - I tried several things including start up from the Reinstallation disc, but nothing worked. I was ready to buy a new hard drive, but don't have to. Works fine!
Not sure what caused the problem to start with. It is an "Inspiron 1520"

Dvd-rw not detected

Go into your device manager and see if your dvd player is listed. Double click on it to see if it says if it is working properly. If not listed, go to the very top and right and it should say scan for hardware changes. Click on that. If your pc finds it then everything should be ok. If not, reboot and hit F8 to boot into safe mode. Do a system restore and you should be fine.
