Question about Dell 924 All-in-One InkJet Printer

This sounds like the scanner is timing out. I would suspect the cable. Have you tried another cable. The cable should be no longer than 6' to make sure that the signal between the scanner and computer is strong enough. Oftern a multipurpose printer will print OK, but have trouble scanning when the signal between the computer and scanner is weak.
