Usually, when an oven won't broil, it's because the broiler element is burned out. The broiler element in an electric oven is the black, pencil-thick tube at the top of the oven. Yesterday I heard a loud pop from inside the stove. Frigidaire smooth top professional series just about 5 years old. Looked inside and my parchment paper had caught on fire which had never happned before...

Is this an oven or the cook top?

A blown oven element is possible. You may still be able to bake but the oven will seem to take forever to warm up. An easy check would be to crank the heat up full bore and put your hand near the top then the bottom. You should feel more intense heat the nearer you get to a working element.

Oven was not working. Range and bottom warmer is working, but the oven isn't working.

I have an old model electric Jenn-Air D-120. Last night my oven bottom burner cought on fire and burned up. Can this be fixed or is the stove shot.

Usually the bake elements are relatively cheap and easy to replace. Use your model # and click on one of the links to the right and search for your part to make sure that it is still available. It would be worth repair.

funny same thing just happened to me and it all seams to be the bottom element of the same ovens around the same year, I bought mine in 99 also, I keep my oven very clean becasue i know the dangers it may cause, I think this is a major problem and it needs to be addressed.
