i have a samsung cool tech plus SL-R628 VE
    (bottom freezer)
The fridge keeps icing up and causing the fan to catch on the built up ice,
i think it is the defrost element or maybe a fault in the defrost pcb housed on the top, i will keep you up dated on my progress. If any one needs a user manual for any samsung product, you can download them free from www.samsung product type .com (put your product type not "product type")

I have a Samsung Side by Side Refridgerator RS21 FCNS which has stopped cooling the fridge - the temp sticks on about 14deg. Yellow pages engineer came out and quoted a ghastly job and £350.

Called Samsung on 0845 726 7864 and they told me that the defrost heater is a design fault and that warranty on this component has been extended to 5 years. Someone coming tomorrow to fix it (for free).

Suspect a bad defrost element and defrost thermostat. but if your handy with a volt meter, check out the defrost heater with the "beeping" option if good,if it doesn't beep, bad defrost element.replace element and defrost thermostat. one step less. second, try to locate the timer, sometimes the timer just gets stuck in cooling cycle and won't defrost. if it's an adaptive defrost board, suspect it faulty. if its an mechanical timer it has a small wheel ,try to turn it if you can't turn it, well there's your problem. your third piece to suspect is the thermostat but I'd change it if the unit never shuts off but i recommend to change the timer first, with defrost thermostat just for safety.

Fridge warm, freezer has frost on back panel & is defrosting, fans work, just changed defrost thermostat, no air is moving from freezer side to fridge side, drain pan under fridge is dry

this fan needs to run when the compressor runs, check fan blade for being jammed by ice if you have this much ice on back wall as ice will stall motor,if no fan there will be no cool air to refrige compartment also the defrost drain tray will fill with water then freeze over which in turn floods the freezer floor and refrige compartments cause it cannot drain to the pan in the bottom

Motor freezes up

the issue is not with the motor to be honest you have probably wasted money buy a new fan motor ,

the fan only stops working when ice builds up and forces it to jam , the ice builds up as the defrost heater is more than likely faulty - very common issue on all uk samsung rs21 models ,

to rectify the fault totally its recommended to replace 4-5 components that operate the fridge cooling /defrosting system - sounds complicated but its really just 1-2 hour job for a skilled competent person

have a look at this video , also check the youtube chanel for same guy , there are lots of info on samsung uk american fridge freezers

Freezer and icemaker freezes, jams.

I have run into this before and found it very helpful to re-level the refrigerator. By leaning the fridge back toward the wall about an inch helped keep the water and ice in the tray. Remember to remove items that block air flow in the freezer. Remove the ice bin and clean it then start over with the fridge leaning back a little. Hope this helps.

Amana refrigerator top freezer going out; water under crispers

you are right about the cause of water in the fridge - blockage in the drain. i'v never met this caused by ice but it is possible.
with the freezer, the cause of the fault is the fan not working - probably jammed with ice. take back panel off inside freezer and check for ice build up. if loads of ice thgen defrost system has failed. you can do a temporary repair by melting the ice off with a hairdryer
